Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2021

Published

Hey everyone!

I haven't seen a post for Fall 2021 yet so here it is!

My choices are:

1. UofT

2. McMaster

3. Nipissing SPP

I started my OUAC application in November and now trying to work on the supplemental packages. My CASPer Test is on January 12, 2021.

I need to take Anatomy and Physio course(s) however, I'm having a hard time figuring out what would satisfy the requirements from all three universities. My options so far are:

1. Take CBLG 101 in Winter and CBLG 111 in Spring at Ryerson. However final grade will be in June; hoping that's fine.  This satisfies all 3 unis

2. Take SCS 2159 in Winter from UofT which is enough for UofT and McMaster but not for Nipissing. I have to take an Anatomy course just for Nip.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from back home, been working as an RECE in Toronto the last 8 years, have a Diploma in Nonprofit Management at Ryerson. My cGPA is 3.55 which I'm worried about. Lots of extra curricular activities from university and volunteering here in Toronto.  I still have to compute the GPA for the last two years.

I requested WES to send my transcripts to Nip and McMaster and asked my old uni to send to UofT.

It's been an expensive application so far; really hoping I get in! Looking forward to chatting with you all and sharing our experiences.

Oh I'm currently taking multiple prerequisites, that's probably why they want proof. Thanks for letting me know!

No problemo! Are you taking them at York?

If you haven't been rejected I guess all you can do is wait and try not to worry. I'm guessing they have a lot of applications to go through and loads of people get accepted later on!

Thank you I am just too worried.  My status says decision is not made yet. Hope for the best of all of us.

I'm a little late to the party but wanted to get in on the action over here (came from the discord chart aha). I've applied to 4 nursing programs (in order of preference):

1. UofT

2. McMaster (accelerated)

3. Queen's (accelerated) [accepted]

4. Western (accelerated)

Ideally I'd rather go to UofT or McMaster because both Queen's and Western would necessitate me moving, which I'd really rather not do. Western contacted me this week because one of my prerequisites was a CR course due to COVID-19. I had to get a letter from the office of the registrar sent to the Western admissions representative which had my actual letter grade for the prerequisite course. Looking forward to chatting with all of you! ?

When I tell you my heart stopped.... LMAO

I was looking at the NCLEX pass rate for accelerated nursing programs in ontario and, although McMaster and Queens have fantastic pass rate, only 68 and 44 people took the exam in 2019. Since they accept 100-120 students, why were there only 68 and 44 students who took the exam as first time test takers? UofT also has a high pass rate but had 160+ nursing students take the exam, so IDK if I should be concerned. Did half the students fail out of the program nursing? Or did half of them feel ill prepared to take the exam?

Hey! I didn't apply to Mac or Western but I did apply to York and I haven't heard back yet! It is still super early so we just have to remain hopeful! It has been making me so nervous though! When did you apply?

I only know about Queen’s though.. I’m not sure how many people the other programs accept

From the NCLEX 2019 data it seems the number of students accepted are on average:

170 (UofT)

75ish (McMaster)

120 (York)

100 (Western)

70 (Trent)

50 (Nipissing)
