Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2021

World Canada CA Programs

Hey everyone!

I haven't seen a post for Fall 2021 yet so here it is!

My choices are:

1. UofT

2. McMaster

3. Nipissing SPP

I started my OUAC application in November and now trying to work on the supplemental packages. My CASPer Test is on January 12, 2021.

I need to take Anatomy and Physio course(s) however, I'm having a hard time figuring out what would satisfy the requirements from all three universities. My options so far are:

1. Take CBLG 101 in Winter and CBLG 111 in Spring at Ryerson. However final grade will be in June; hoping that's fine.  This satisfies all 3 unis

2. Take SCS 2159 in Winter from UofT which is enough for UofT and McMaster but not for Nipissing. I have to take an Anatomy course just for Nip.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from back home, been working as an RECE in Toronto the last 8 years, have a Diploma in Nonprofit Management at Ryerson. My cGPA is 3.55 which I'm worried about. Lots of extra curricular activities from university and volunteering here in Toronto.  I still have to compute the GPA for the last two years.

I requested WES to send my transcripts to Nip and McMaster and asked my old uni to send to UofT.

It's been an expensive application so far; really hoping I get in! Looking forward to chatting with you all and sharing our experiences.

Hey everyone! I'm glad you have found my thread!

I hope to get into Toronto unis, mainly U of T. However my partner said he'll support me all the way in case I only got into McMaster. Lucky! Really hoping to get into U of T though as we live in downtown Toronto.

I am SOOOO LATE in my prereq course as I haven't registered to any AP yet. I was recommended by McMaster Admissions to get BIOL 235 in Athabasca U which satisfies all unis I'm applying to. Just that - it is a 6 credit, which is recommended to be for 6 months. I've read negative reviews for the AU style so this is my last resort.

My other plan is to take SCS 2159 at U of T, which is good for both UofT and Mc, but still need an Anatomy course for Nipissing. If taking this route, it will be more expensive than the AU which is already at $1500.

I am now thinking of withdrawing my Nip application but then will be super sad if I don't get the UofT. I've also already paid OUAC app + CASPer + transcript requests for Nip so there's that.

So many decisions I need to make SOON! haha! Anyway, hoping everyone is having a great holidays!

Hey there thanks for making the post, I'm only applying to uoft cause I can't afford to go anywhere farther from Toronto and I don't have Microbiology for york. I'm in my second year at a program at ryerson and my fall term GPA was 3.86 while my cgpa is 3.88. I meet all the pre reqs and I'll be taking the physiology course at uoft starting in January. I'm really really working for an acceptance. My ECs are pretty good, I have a bunch of club stuff from ryerson & high school and I also have stuff I did on my own. I haven't been able to start the supplementary application yet since I applied this week but I've been drafting stuff based on what I think it would be like. I've been lurking here for the past couple of months and I'm really excited to chat with you guys!

Yeah I skipped York as well due to Micro bio. Good luck!

Hello everyone

I just finished my preparation semester at Humber. If you have any questions regarding the program please let me know.

?

Specializes in nursing.

Hey guys!

Is anyone applying to Humber's second entry program? I read that they're now trying to do a standalone program away from UNB, but when I go to apply I can't find the application on OUAC or ontariocolleges.ca. Does anyone know what happened to the application? Or is it just not open yet because they're still waiting for approval to do the program?

Hey! I'm curious what was your GPA applying? And how are you finding the program so far. Do you like Humber? And do you know anything about the new accelerated program they are doing (not with UNB anymore)? Thank you!

Hi everyone!

I'm in my fourth year of a Bachelor's in Health Studies at Waterloo, and am applying to UofT, McMaster, York, Western, Trent, Nipissing, and Queens.

My issue is that I wanted my Fall 2020 (this past semester) grades to be included in my application, so although I submitted my application in October, I haven't been able to submit any transcripts yet because my final grades are still pending.

Does anyone else have any experience/insight on if this will affect my acceptance decision? Is anyone in the same boat and still waiting for their university to send their transcripts through OUAC? I know some applicants have their transcripts sent in when they first apply, but this semester went so well that I wanted these grades to be included in my application as well. Looking back, I'm not sure if that was the wisest decision.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys!

For uoft, they don't start looking at yours until after the deadline (and I'm pretty sure the majority of unis will wait until the app period closes, minus Queen). Once everything is gathered, they start looking at it in March (I think they sent out an email or posted on the faculty website smth like that). It's not like a rolling basis admission like the US. No need to worry - your Fall 2020 WILL be included no matter what for UofT.

Hey! Im not sure how they are running the new program, however I enjoyed the program thus far. I had to take Microbiology, Pathophysiology & Anatomy during the prep semester from September - December. It was pretty difficult, especially because I do not have a science background and you need a B in all prep courses to enter the program itself which begins in January. Although it is challenging, it is totally doable and the professors are incredible.

My GPA was a 3.3-3.4 and I managed to be pulled from the waitlist. Humber was the only program I applied for, mostly because the tuition is cheaper compared to other schools and I've heard good things about their stimulation labs ?

Hello everyone!

I have a question about physiology prerequisites. I'm from the US, and had seen for most of the programs here that I needed a full year of Anatomy and Physiology, which could either be taken as a combined A&P I and II, or split into anatomy one semester, and physiology in the second semester. Thus, I took them as separate courses, through the online Johns Hopkins nursing prerequisite program (the Anatomy course is considered a prerequisite for the Physiology course). My problem is, I didn't realize until too late that schools like U of T require a full year of physiology, and now I'm struggling to find a relevant half course physiology class that would both count towards the requirement, and not be redundant for the classes I've already taken. Does anyone know if U of T would accept a half anatomy/half physiology course towards the requirement for a full credit of physiology, since one is a prerequisite for the other? If not, does anyone have any suggestions for online, asynchronous, half credit, non-degree physiology courses that are still accepting registrations for the Winter semester? Thanks for any tips!

they will require a full course of physiology... (unless you compare the syllabus to the topics that need to be covered and see if everything they ask for is covered). the in-depth level compared to A&P versus 1 full year just talking about physiology is very different. it's also a core prerequisite & you don't want to mess up any part of the application - better safe than sorry.

lookup UofT's continuing studies options/Michener institute/Athabasca U. I highly doubt that it will not be redundant, but at least you will have the background knowledge to ace it.

Hey guys,

For anyone that has taken a fifth year because they did not get in after they graduated with their first degree, did you continue as a non-degree student or enrol for a second degree to boost GPA? I know it’s early in the process and I’m hoping to get in this year but my low GPA worries me. I just wanna see what my best options are just incase.

Hi everyone! Hope everyone's doing well!!

I've been stalking these forums for so long now (literally over 2 years) so I thought I'd finally post in my admissions cycle. I'm applying to basically every school in Ontario that offers second-entry nursing (UofT, Mac, Western, York, Trent, Queen's and Humber-- whenever Humber happens to open its admissions). My GPA is around 3.7 (humbly excluding my first year <3) and I don't have a very impressive CV or EC's (volunteering at the hospital and vaccination clinic right now as a screener, volunteering with paramedic services, peer mentoring at school, etc.) and unfortunately, no research experience. I have all my pre-requisites done-- however, I'm a little iffy about the psych requirement at Mac-- but other than that, I think everything looks okay? I'm just really excited to finally be able to apply this year and hopefully be starting Nursing in Fall 2021!! I'm also writing my CASPER test on Jan 12th! Good luck everyone! We got this!

Hey has anyone applied to uOttawa for Spring 2021?

Hi everyone! I'm currently a second year psychology, neuroscience, and behavior student at Mcmaster University. I will be applying to Mac, Queens, and Western for fall 2021 entry. I've been super anxious about getting in because I took difficult classes last Summer and this past semester (Ex. Neuro and calculus) that have dropped my overall GPA. My cGPA after fall 2020 is 3.7/4.0 or 10.4 on Mac's 12.0 scale. Good luck to all those who have applied! ?
