Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2020

Updated:   Published

Hey, I used to creep these forums for the past few years and they helped affirm my decision to apply to nursing school for Fall 2020. I didn't see one started for next year so I thought, why not start one?

I graduated a while back so I'm a bit older, but my top three choices are:

1. Queen's

2. McMaster

3. York

4. Humber-UNB

Hey guys,

I got accepted to Queen's yesterday (Wednesday) morning. My last two years GPA was 3.87/4.3. I'm a Queen's grad.

Just wondering if anyone knows when McMaster and Western usually send out acceptances? Queen's gave me an accept/decline deadline of March 15th, which seems crazy early.

Good luck everyone :)

Thats exactly what I do!! After each lecture, i teach myself the concepts at home and re write all the notes. Thats why i was surpirsed to see how bad i had done. Which prof did you have? I have ********and i just find his questions are tricky. Not sure how im going to get a B in this class. So scared ?

I had ****, as well. How many midterms do you have left so far? Also, teaching yourself is one thing, but does it interest you? I find that, if it's a subject you are interested in, you'll be fine. For me, I knew a bit of the topics presented in class, however I approached each topic as if it was new to me. I would make notes of my own research, and watch videos (more than 1x).

Also, have a talk with prof ***, and ask him for advice or even ask if he can provide accommodations if 1 hour is not enough for you to write the midterm. And let me tell u, your not the only one that struggled in that course, many students including myself last semester were hella stressed and frustrated with the teaching style, and the midterms. But if I can come through and do well, so can you. Don't put fear in your head, approach each material like you're not being tested on it. Try to make it fun (I know, fun right) by doing cue cards, drawing diagrams, watch videos, etc.

Yes, im actually really interested in the course as well. The material does not scare me at all, i learn everything with so much interest but its just his tests and yes the 1 hour time limit is really not enough. I don't get enough time to look back at the questions. I have one midterm left and a final worth 50%. How was the second midterm and final?

Thanks so much for the encouragement by the way! means a lot ❤️

Ok, I suggest you talk to him and ask if he could possibly give you half an hour more for the midterm. The second midterm was ok. But for the exam study, study, study. Review notes from the beginning of the course; the exam is cumulative.

And no worries. We all need encouragement. You can do this, if u have to make some sacrifices then do so, especially if u want to get into nursing. Don't think to much. You got this.

Yes i'll try talking to him. Trying my best in everything because i know i really want to be in nursing. Thanks again ❤️ !!!

Hi I was just reading about how you're taking micro or looking to take it. I took the course 3 years ago when I was originally applying for nursing but I did it distance through Dalhousie University, I finished with a 96. I would highly recommend taking it if your uni would give you permission to take the course as the distance version is much easier easy pre-req and gpa booster.

I got admitted into York's second-entry nursing program! I didn't receive an email yet, but my status changed on myfile today. I'm in the process of finishing one pre-requisite this term, so waiting to hear from an official email what the conditions are.

@Hannahfromcanada Hey! thanks so much for the input. Do you know the process of how I can apply to do a course outside my uni?

Hi guys i would like some advice here. i'm currently taking the 3rd year course as a prerequisite. I took a 6 credit course and so far, I have not been doing well. The prof is a tough grader and i'm trying my best to achieve a B but it starting to seem impossible. I want to drop it however im wondering if that will affect when i get my offer. if i drop it, my gpa would also increase a bit and I could take the prerequisite in summer school. But im just nervous that they would not send me an offer since i dropped it.
