Hello Everyone,
I am currently a third year York University student hoping to apply for second entry nursing at York
only next year (yes I am going through the strike).
Since applications open in November, I thought it would be best to get this forum started. I am hoping to get more insight into the program and I hope current and past nursing students would share their views on the program and how job searching went. Also, what nursing specialties do most York nursing graduates enter as I am hoping to get into public health. Furthermore, share your insights on Humber, McMaster, U of T, Trent, Queens, Western, Ottawa and Nippissing. (I think that is all) and don't forget to include your acceptance GPAs.
Does anyone know anything about the accelerated nursing program at Trent? I just got accepted to the program and I'm struggling to choose between Ryerson-GB (I can live at home and wont have to get in debt but its 4 years), or the accelerated Trent program (I will have to take out bank loans on top of the small amount of OSAP I'll recieve). Just wondering if the placements are difficult to get to/rural, and if accelerated nursing students have a specific residence (with the graduate students)? I'd like to work in the GTA after graduation so if it's more difficult for Trent nurses to find jobs after graduation (due to placements in school outside the GTA), that would be a consideration for me as well.

I'm going to York (for several reasons beyond just the program itself). So I (many others too) could care less about what some ignorant and narrow minded 'nursing managers' around the GTA think, there's literally jobs falling off trees for nurses, much higher paying one's in the US and Australia too. Just do a good job, you'll be fine, and don't let the 'gatekeepers' who you don't even know determine your decisions.

It is true that there are a lot if jobs out there, but there are hundreds of new graduates each year and thousands if you count other countries so the job market is still very competitive. Ofc each school has their pros and cons. Congrats on York and goodluck to your studies!!

Agreed. I’m going to York as well for many different reasons. I’ve put off going to nursing school for 10 years and I’m so happy I got in anywhere to be honest! Ain’t no one gonna rain on my parade ? We all have to pass the same NCLEX exam. Where you go to school doesn’t determine what kind of nurse you will be. I think what these nursing managers are doing shows more about them then it does about York.
Anyway, maybe I will see you at York!
Hi!
Just joining this forum. I applied to both UWO and UofT, I heard back from UWO a few weeks back I think, but no news from UofT (I'm guessing that's a bad sign ahah)
Anyways, I'm happy I got into UWO, was just wondering if there is a facebook group? And is UofT sending their letters (rejections/ acceptances) by June 30th?

Hey there! I think anyone waiting for a response from UofT has until tomorrow (June 28th) to hear back via email! If it gives you any hope, I was rejected from UofT last year and that happened in early June (13 or 14th I think). I've heard that some people have received rejections already this year and know that by the end of June they start giving out final acceptances, rejections, and waitlist decisions so there's still some hope! At the very least, I hope the waitlist is still an option. Either way I got into Humber-UNB so it's all good!
Hope that helps.
Okay, good to know and congrats!
Kinda wish all the schools sent out responses at the same time! I already have to register for my UWO courses in like a week.
Did anyone apply to both UWO and UofT, and got accepted. Which one did you choose and why?
I did my undergrad at UWO and wanted a change of scenery lol I also noticed that there are no placements until year 2 of the program? But, at UofT you start right away.
One of the main reasons I applied to UWO is because I am familiar with the campus and most profs are very approachable and helpful. The only thing that worries me is that placements don't begin right away! And that was the main reason I wanted UofT. At the end I just want to be in a program that is fair when it comes to exams/assignments and prepares their students for the profession!
Excited to be going back to school after my year off (and a little nervous because school can be so hectic)! lol
