Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2019

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a third year York University student hoping to apply for second entry nursing at York

only next year (yes I am going through the strike).

Since applications open in November, I thought it would be best to get this forum started. I am hoping to get more insight into the program and I hope current and past nursing students would share their views on the program and how job searching went. Also, what nursing specialties do most York nursing graduates enter as I am hoping to get into public health. Furthermore, share your insights on Humber, McMaster, U of T, Trent, Queens, Western, Ottawa and Nippissing. (I think that is all) and don't forget to include your acceptance GPAs.

hey guys, thought id share my stats for all those loosing hope.

i got into second entry at nipissing with a 3.00 GPA.

some of my ECs = volunteer abroad, sickKids volunteer, volunteering with children who have exceptionalities etc.

Hey guys, I got accepted to Western compressed nursing yesterday. I sent them my final transcripts really late (they received them all last week) so I'm surprised I was admitted! Are people waitlisted at Western as well?

Hey Jentheaspiringnurse, I just got waitlisted for Western compressed yesterday. Were you waitlisted at first as well? I just wanted to know how long it takes for them to get back to you and whether I should be hopeful of hearing anything from them anytime soon. Also, did they call you to see if you were still interested?

Hello everyone

I was admitted into York second entry, Humber, Trent, But went with York. Has anyone else admitted into York get their letter in the mail and/or book their enrolment appointment? Wondering why it’s taking them some time as I was accepted March 30. Thanks!

Hey! I was never waitlisted. My status on the Western Student Centre was "More documents required" for like a month in a half. Yesterday I received a call out of the blue asking if I was still interested (after they reviewed all my final transcripts). I was completely caught off guard and said yes, even though I have already accepted UofT. So they sent me a letter of admission soon after. What position are you on the waitlist? I have to accept/decline by June 25th.

Is there any way for me to know what position I am on the waitlist? Cause I just accepted the waitlist offer. I'm only worried about waiting for a long time until they accept or reject me, I'd honestly rather just have a straight answer. But either way congratulations! And thank you :)

If you're waitlisted at U of T, does your application status on JOIN say so? Mine still says 'application received'. The waiting game sucks!

Hey! I'm also waiting for some sort of response from UofT myself. My JOIN says 'Application Received' as well. We have a week left so here's to hoping we receive some news soon!

I had a offer from York that expired on May 24 but I just received an email that they're giving me a offer extension until June 28. I already accepted and gave in my deposit for Humber but now I'm second guessing. Anyone have any opinions on York vs Humber?

@jaiwuu I will tell you something. My mom is a nurse manager at a hospital in the area and she does all the hiring for her unit. She tells me all the time that she won’t even interview grads from York. She says she has had such bad nurses that all were from York, so if she sees a resume from there, she throws it away. She loves the nurses from Humber though. (And I’m allowed to talk poorly about York because that’s where my first degree is from haha)

Dang girl thanks. So I assume that you aren’t going to York haha

@jaiwuu no problem! Even before I started becoming interested in pursuing a career in nursing, I knew about my moms hatred for York nurses. Apparently it’s consistent among the other managers too. So I am definitely not going to York haha. I accepted Humber! I had originally accepted Mohawk/McMaster but I changed my mind ?
