Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2019

World Canada CA Programs

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a third year York University student hoping to apply for second entry nursing at York

only next year (yes I am going through the strike).

Since applications open in November, I thought it would be best to get this forum started. I am hoping to get more insight into the program and I hope current and past nursing students would share their views on the program and how job searching went. Also, what nursing specialties do most York nursing graduates enter as I am hoping to get into public health. Furthermore, share your insights on Humber, McMaster, U of T, Trent, Queens, Western, Ottawa and Nippissing. (I think that is all) and don't forget to include your acceptance GPAs.

Hey everyone! I just got into u of t around 12 pm ish. It’s my first choice so I will be accepting the offer! To everyone who is still waiting, honest to god, I feel you. I was so anxious and even broke down a few times over the last 2 weeks. But please don’t lose faith and please remember that you worked hard to get to where you are , and your efforts will pay off. I am crossing my fingers for everyone who is still waiting. Last but not least, congratulations to everyone who have already received an offer! I can’t wait to meet those of you who are going to u of t! Feel free to message me!!!!

congratulations!! ?

Thank you so much girl! Congratulations to you too, I can’t wait to meet you!

For Mac, I don’t know if I will meet the conditions, so I didn't accept their offer and it expires Tomm. Is it possible to reinstate the offer after it expires? ?

any more news from Western?

I'm anxiously waiting too! Waiting is not easy...

Anxiously waiting for western too. I have an admission with humber and i have accepted but western is still my preferred choice

Has anyone gotten off the waitlist for humber? Don’t know if there’s been any movement.

Hi everyone who's been waiting on me for knowledge about McMaster's accelerated, PBL program. She said she's heard PBL will be helpful in the end but is very dependent on your tutor. She loves her faculty, and the students are all supportive/helpful. She's been getting good grades and plan on going the NP route (I asked about grades because I want to keep that option as well). She's only in her first year (second term) but a friend that is graduating feels competent enough to be a nurse (where as UofT, my friend doesn't feel competent enough rn but still has 'consolidation' aka following a nurse around for 6-8 weeks? in which she feels she will be comptent thereafter, by graduation). First year there are assignments and exams, but the last year is mosly just placements and PBL (I assume tutorials?). I also asked if there was something she wished someone would have told her about nursing/the program, what would it be and her response to that question (i think, as I had listed a bunch of questions and she answered them all in one go) is that she struggles with the online modules that they do, and wish patho was done in class rather than online. I also asked why McMaster, and she lives in waterloo (closer proximity than other schools) and have always regarded the program highly and was her first choice to begin with. I also asked about tuition - seems to be the cheaper option of all the programs I've applied to. She said first and second terms were roughly just above 3k (each) and summer is just above 2k. However, it's not cheaper by much!

The last bit about online modules has me extremely worried as I've done online courses and they're not fun! So much harder IMO because at least with classes, I'm scheduled to be at the same place at the same time whereas online modules, I need to create that schedule. I'm not a bad organizer but when it comes to classes I highly prefer to have a set, concrete schedule (and to be listening to someone speak/teach in person over watching on the computer). However, it may work out for others so it's really up to your own preferences.

Hope this helps! I think I've decided to accept UofT's offer and letting my McMaster offer expire tomorrow, so there will be a spot for someone else! Still waiting on UBC to send out emails which may take another three weeks or so..

I would just accept the offer and if you don't meet the conditions, then you won't get in. At least if you accept it now, you won't have to beg them to reinstate. I can't remember if I read this from McMaster or UofT (or somewhere else), but I'm sure the policy is similar... They won't reinstate offers for people who've let it expired etc. Might be case by case but why not accept it so at least it buys you more time? ie what do you have to lose by accepting it now?

Congratulations on your acceptance! I'm still waiting for mine from UofT so fingers crossed! Would you mind sharing your GPA and extracurriculars? ?

Hey! You're allowed to wear long sleeves under the scrubs. The jackets over the scrubs depend on your own unit's culture where you get placed, but generally the answer is no because of the risk of bringing in infectious microbes... You can find details about this with your CIs later ? Also like... some units are really hot LOL. Hope this helps!

Awesome! Thanks!!

I was asking because I have some scars on one arm so I'm more comfortable with covering it up in front of people until I get to know them ?

I find the long-sleeved tops from the AIRism line at uniqlo are great, even in hotter weather or when people blast the heating in the winter lol. If anyone else prefers to have long sleeves for tattoos/religious reasons/other, I recommend these tops.

If I accept my Mac offer, I’ll lose my spot for York because I accepted York already. Thanks tho
