Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2019

Updated:   Published

Hello Everyone,

I am currently a third year York University student hoping to apply for second entry nursing at York

only next year (yes I am going through the strike).

Since applications open in November, I thought it would be best to get this forum started. I am hoping to get more insight into the program and I hope current and past nursing students would share their views on the program and how job searching went. Also, what nursing specialties do most York nursing graduates enter as I am hoping to get into public health. Furthermore, share your insights on Humber, McMaster, U of T, Trent, Queens, Western, Ottawa and Nippissing. (I think that is all) and don't forget to include your acceptance GPAs.

OMGGGGG YOU GUYS I AM SHAKING AND CANNOT BELIEVE IT!!! I just got an offer to UofT at 3:49 pm. They said “On condition that your current year of study is completed with at least a B+ average.” I was taking a humanities course as one of the prerequisites this semester and I just got my grade in for it so I guess they were waiting for that? Because it doesn’t specify any conditions for finishing it.

Anyways guys: my stats: final year average was 85%. 3.84 gpa on the UofT scale.

ECS: completed a co-op placement at a hospital in high school and returned to volunteer there last June so I’ve been doing that for the past 9 months or so. I have 3 years experience as a tutor, and I was an executive for one of the clubs on campus. I also have research experience with one of my profs so I mentioned that as well. I also mentioned how I balanced various part time jobs and other extracurricular involvement (e.g. participating in campus events) so I think that helped.

Honestly I was worried my ECS weren’t as impressive as some people so didn’t think I would get in

Honestly if you are still waiting DONT LOSE HOPE!!!!! I was just in the same boat feeling very hopeless but please remain positive and know that there’s always a way! If it is meant to be for you, it will happen that’s what I can say! Good luck everyone!

Got an offer to U of T as well today!

I also got an acceptance email from uoft! Got it at 1:29pm EST. Average for last 10 courses was a 90.4. My ecs are all over the place. Volunteered here and there for campus events, coops supporting individuals with developmental disabilities (as well as a current job doing the same), coop working as a tour guide in whistler lmao, working a bunch of csr roles as well as a key holder role. I also volunteered in nicaragua for a couple weeks in 2017 to help build a school, and i used to volunteer with an organization as a tutor to increase children’s literacy skills (no longer work there as i have a full time job and it was only during school hours). I literally put a bunch of stuff but not much research other than a group project where we had to create a hypothesis, research and present to the class/prof. I did a research course with a prof but totally left that out (although it was shown as a research course that was pass/fail in my last year) which was done with one of my profs who was one of my references. Any other questions feel free to ask lol if you saw my ecs, you’d be blown away by all the little things i’ve done (not cause they’re crazy but because i put every little thing down lol).

I don’t think this means that you didn’t get in. I was rejected from my second choice a week ago and got into UofT nursing (1st choice) today at 1:10pm (gpa: 3.87).

Thank you! Out of curiosity, what was your second choice?
