Online statistics class

Published

I am starting an online statistics class on Monday and I was wondering if anyone has any helpful tips regarding statistics. I am taking classes to complete my RN to BSN and really want to make good grades so I can get my MSN down the road.

I didn't take stats online, I took it traditionally on-campus. It doesn't involve a lot of math so I found it to be easier than previous courses. I could have done better in the class over-all but I slacked off in the end. Just keep up with your assignments and get help as soon as you find that you need it. Best of luck!

When I took stats you could have your choice of several different versions. If you do, take the one for educational stats vs. straight mathematical. You'll learn what you need to learn and have real-life examples to hang your ideas on.

I have taken two stats courses...one at the undergrad level and one at the master's level and achieved an A+ on both. However, the first stats course that I undertook at the master's level, I had to withdraw from because I had too much going on personally and became overwhelmed. I learned from that experience that, with stats, it is essential to keep up. Do not let yourself get behind or you are sunk! Do the practice problems and make sure you know where you went wrong, if you go wrong. And, as with every other subject, try to figure out where you went wrong by yourself before you ask for help; you learn so much more that way.

I found statistics to be a really tough class to take online; I typically do really well with online classes, but stats was brutal for me. I suggest doing all of the readings, and using the internet for research on topics that you may struggle with. Each thing we learned was necessary to learn the next concept, so if you missed one of them, it could really screw you up. Kahn Academy had some really good resources, and I watched a lot of YouTube videos. I did pull an A in it, but man, did I work hard for it! I really wish I had taken it in an on-campus format.

Thanks everyone. The class is elementary statistics so I'm not sure what all that covers but I guess I will soon find out

When I took statistics online for my BSN I was really nervous about passing. What really helped me was Khan academy. It has YouTube videos for statistics that I watched over and over to help me figure out what I was doing. I ended up getting an A. My daughter is in sixth grade and I was trying to help her with her with her summer math homework they had to complete prior to school starting and ended up going to Khan academy to figure out the answers.I ended up getting her an account and it is really helping her with her homework. Google khanacademy.org. Good luck :)
