New RN
I start orientation Monday for my first nursing position on a medical surgical unit. I am excited and extremely nervous. What makes me nervous is that I haven't performed many skills since graduating nursing school in may and that I won't remember everything needed to be a safe competent nurse. Any advice and/or encouragement is greatly appreciated.

Online statistics class
I am starting an online statistics class on Monday and I was wondering if anyone has any helpful tips regarding statistics. I am taking classes to complete my RN to BSN and really want to make good grades so I can get my MSN down the road.

Last semester before graduation
Today I start my last semester of nursing school before I graduate with my ADN in May!!! I cant believe how much excitement and nervousness can try and take over at once. Is it normal to feel so unsure? I have studied very hard to make it this far and have not had any major setbacks but it is scary to think of how soon school will be over and I will be out there on the floor and having to apply all that I have learned. The transition between student nurse and RN seems quite nerve wracking right now.

Is A&P 1 the most difficult class in nursing?
A&p1 is difficult because you are learning a "new language" and everything else builds on what you learn in the class. The material gets a little more in depth each semester following and the test questions become all NCLEX style. Personally I have struggled more with pharmacology than A&P. learn all you can and enjoy the journey. Good luck! :)

What Do You Eat?
Always find time for lunch.... There are times you will be very busy but you must take care of yourself to adiquitly take care of your patients. Your brain and muscles work better when they are fueled with healthy food. Drink water, high protein, low carb (low not nonixistant) diet.

What is a Calling to be a nurse?
I do think nursing is a "calling" for some people. I do not romanticize the nursing profession but that doesn't take away from the love I have for it.

Select All That Apply
Our instructors told us it will never be just one and very rarely all.

Weatherford College fall 2014 adn applicants
Congratulations everyone who has been accepted into the program. I want to reassure those who are alternates not to give up hope because I was an alternate at this time last year and got in. There was also a guy in my class who got called to join our class after lunch on the first day.

Daily Schedule?
It differs person to person. There are some students in my class who have kids and work 2 jobs while going to nursing school (which doesn't leave much study time) and do great. On the other hand there are people who study hours upon hours and are struggling to pass. Once classes begin you will be able to change your study schedule if necessary. In my personal experience there were days I was exhausted and only studied for about an hour and then days that I spent 8+ hours studying. I'm married with 2 toddlers but have not had to work thus far. Good luck to you and only time will tell. :)

Half way there!!
First semester I studied from the fundamentals book second semester I used med-surg. Your time management gets better but the material gets more difficult. Tests are NCLEX style and they are difficult to understand (I would recommend you buy a NCLEX test success if you don't already have one). Good luck!!!

Half way there!!
Hello everyone! i am so excited to be half way through my ADN program. There have been days where I have felt on top of the world and other days that I have had to drag myself out of bed but all in all it has been an amazing journey so far. Rumor has it that next semester will be the toughest of the entire program and that makes me nervous because I have all summer off between now and then. Congratulations to everyone beginning the journey of nursing school! Does anyone have advice on how to study/review during the summer so I'm not so brain dead when classes begin in August? Any advice is appreciated. :)

Just got into nursing school
Don't worry... I am not an "older" student but I am an untraditional student and successfully completed my first semester of nursing school with 2 As and 3 Bs. (I am 22 and have a 1yo and 2 1/2yo) my advice to parents who are students is to be organized, study when u can (I study at school when I can and after I put the boys to bed), get the kids to help around the house if they are old enough, and every so often do something for you or you will go crazy. Good luck on your journey and my last piece of advice is to take it one day at a time. :)

Do you eat well/exercise while in the program?
Oh I forgot dinner, I make dinner almost every night but there are nights that there is no time to make dinner so we eat unhealthy (I have 2 boys so its usually pizza). The nights I make dinner we usually have a protein and a veggie (last night we had pork chops and squash). I try to limit how much carbs we consume.... it doesnt always work lol

Do you eat well/exercise while in the program?
Its funny that you ask this question because a lot of people in my program have complained that they have gained weight since starting nursing school. These same people are the ones that go out to eat almost every day and eat a lot in one sitting. I set a goal for myself before starting the program that I would not fall into the trap that everyone will gain weight. As far as eating habbits go I am a snacker.... for breakfast I have a cheese stick and fruit, then I have multi grain and peanut butter crackers as a snack (6g of protein), for lunch I either get a salad or bring a turkey and cheese sandwhich on multi grain bread with more fruit, if I need an afternoon snack it will be a veggie of some kind (carrots, bell pepper, celery). Watching what I eat has worked out for me so far because I have lost about 5 lbs in the 8 weeks that I have been in school. The thing that I need to work on is working out.... I want to work out but never find myself actually doing it. I would also like to say that I think that its a great idea that y'all are keeping each other accountable.... I wish some more people in my program would join me so that we too would have an accountability group.
