Online STAT

I am pretty bad at math & really gambled with my GPA by taking statistics for 2 weeks during the accelerated winter semester. I personally found statistics more useful than other types of math I have encountered because it is real world applicable. I also had an amazing professor & think that can make a world of difference. I recommend doing extra practice problems even if the teacher does not assign it. If you are having trouble with any concepts, go right to your school's tutoring center or your professor's office hours. Finally, if you need more practice even after doing the practice problems, ask your professor to recommend or write up problems for you to do. I did this many times. I think statistics is really about learning the process for each problem. Good luck!!

I am crazy along with you. I decided to take college algebra and statistics online this semester (along with online nutrition) and I am very nervous about this semester. My school uses the Pearson Math Labs/Statistics Lab, and I have read pretty good reviews about that program. I would like Tuesday to be here so that my classes open and I can get a better look into what my semester is going to be like!

Good luck to you! I'm taking 2 online classes as well this semester, with the rest being on campus.

Stats should be doable online. Practice problems definitely help. I didn't take mine online, but I remember having a good professor and using the book/reviews to look for examples on how to work out problems. And I agree, if you really need help during the semester, the tutoring centers or a study group on campus will be able to direct you.

An online nutrition class should be a fairly easy as well if you keep up with your coursework and stay organized. I've taken 2 online nutrition classes so far, because they were only given online and I did pretty well on them.

I took it online. I think I was unprepared for how hard it would be. It's time consuming, but if you do as many practice problems as you can- you'll be fine. I flunked one exam, worked my butt of and got 100% on the cumulative final! Came out with a B, barely. Lol.

Clearly I'm JUST as crazy. I'm taking online stats and A&P I (classroom based) this semester. I'm pretty bad at Math as well, but I took stats when I was getting my first Bachelors, and managed a B. Unfortunately, my ABSN program won't accept my previous stats class because it was stats for political science majors, which is apparently more theory based than computational. WOMP! In any case, I'm hoping it wasn't a horrible decision to take stats online as well. However, as long as the access lab and companion website give lengthy explanations and problem solutions, I would imagine that it should be doable.

BoxerMama, online nutrition was pretty easy although fast-paced. But then again, my course was only a month and half long, so a longer course span may alleviate that "rush" factor.

I wouldn't do it myself. I'm not terrible in math but I really need something else teaching me than my textbook. Online would be okay for me if it included videos or something. But I already took stats anyways. It wasn't easy, but not terribly hard. Anyways, good luck!

I have heard nutrition is really just busy work and to just put in the time to keep up with the class load, but it is a 15-week course, so hopefully that will not be too bad. I am sorry that you have to take stats again, but hopefully a lot will overlap and it will be easy! I have yet to run into someone who does not roll their eyes and groin when I mention taking statistics, not quite the encouragement I am looking for. I am just sad that all my science classes are done. It is hard to not look forward at all to a semester of classes. I will just keep my eye on hopefully starting my program!

I'm taking it online, but it has two in-person tests. My only other option was to come to school at 7:45 Tuesday and Thursday, where I don't have any other classes Tuesday and my class is at 12 on Thursday. The other classes conflicted with my nursing courses.

I took statistics online and made an A. I had already taken college algebra and pre-calculus. As with any other online class, staying on top of the material is essential. Just because you don't have to attend an in-person lecture doesn't mean you can let homework and/or practice problems slide until the last minute. After all, you need to be prepared for the exams.

I did well in statistics online because I completed all of the assigned homework problems along with additional practice problems. It also really helped to print a "cheat sheet" for graphing calculator functions, which I could reference while doing homework; my professor allowed graphing calculator use during exams but he required us to memorize the functions beforehand. All of our exams were in-person at my college's testing center, culminating in a comprehensive final (fun times!)

With that said...good luck! Taking statistics online isn't crazy, it just requires self-motivation like any other distance learning course. It also helps to have a professor who's responsive to student emails and Blackboard posts (not sure if your school uses this platform, but it was a good way for students to consult with each other about tricky concepts, etc.) Just stay on top of your assignments, get help early if needed, and you'll be fine :up:

Welp, I'm two chapters in and I'm getting an A. That's on top of two other online classes, so I think I'm doing pretty darn well! I agree with you, Jena- staying on top of stuff is essential. What I love about this class (and yea, it's through Pearson, which is awesome) is that it tracks your progress, so I'm really motivated by watching my scores stay or go up. Also, the professor teaches each section by video and a worksheet that you follow along with in the lecture, then you do the homework in the lab.

I wasn't good at math until I got to college, then something clicked. College Algebra got me a B+ and I've done pretty well in classes like Chemistry (A), so I think I'll be alright. I just wanted to see if there was anybody else out there, and get a litmus on reactions from the class.

I am finishing up Chapter 2 as well, and I am also using MSL. I really find the lecture videos really helpful in explaining content. I also agree it is staying on top of everything. With three online courses this semester, if I get behind there really would be no way to catch back up. Glad to hear that things are going well!
