Hi all,
I thought that maybe it would be good to have a sticky for online science courses.
I am currently looking for an online/distance learning-- 4-- credit microbiology course. Of course it has to have a lab.
I know that both ccconline and Rio Salado offer these courses. Anyone have experience with either one of these in regards to microbiology, i.e. testing, level of difficulty, user friendly technology. I know from experience with Rio that the exams are proctored but how does ccconline deliver their exams?
If you have a link or resources to other colleges offering sciences--please post them here.

Ok, I factored in the cost (Ocean county college vs. CCConline) and Ocean county is cheaper. I noticed that CCConline charges your for 5 credits and you know when you transfer to university it's only going to count as 4. I need that extra $200.
I applied to both schools...
FYI: CCConline via Morgan community college will accept you and let you register the same hour. Seriously. No transcript or ACT needed. I got the FASFA verification form in the mail about a 2 weeks later. I won't be sending it back because I'm sure I'll be going with Ocean county college.
Checked out the University of New England.
Cheaper than Ocean county college but I would advise all to see if the post baccalaureate sequence will transfer to a university. I noticed that biology I & II is called "medical" biology and some universities can be asses.
Turns out that neither schoo'sl micro course will be useful for me because the university that I will transfer too considers it as "into to micro" instead of "biology of microorganisms" and I won't get credit for intro.
klleo27,I may have to take genetics and immunology, haven't found an online class for that.
Genetics & Immunology
Forgot to add.
BYU has the genetics course for cheaper.
And the instructor for the immunology course is a nut (so says the internet).
Hello everyone,
I am new here and I plan to apply to nursing school for next fall. I am able to take my prerequisite courses at a community college. Would it be better if I take them online or at a community college? The nursing program accepts online courses and labs. I've taken many online courses before and it seems like they are more work and time consuming.
I would appreciate any feedback.
yes..it is beneficial..some science classes even have prerequisites when it comes to math. Nursing programs I have seen require Statistics and I believe before you take Statistics you have to have some type of algebra...
My bachelor's degree is business oriented so I never took college algebra. I took statistics, finite mathematics, and intermediate algebra (this course was taken a long time ago at a community college).
I plan to apply to a pre-licensure MSN program. I have the option to take either one biochemistry (3 credits) course or two chemistry courses (6 credits). The issue is that some chemistry courses require college algebra as a prerequisite while some do not. I suppose I can always take courses that don't require a prerequisite. I was told that the level of the chemistry courses does not matter as long as they are 6 credits.
1. Has anyone taken biochemistry in place of chemistry? Biochemistry seems more interesting.
2. Do you think taking chemistry courses and college algebra will be beneficial for nursing school or does it not matter? I want to prepare myself for nursing school even if it means taking courses and labs that are not required.
I hope someone can shed some light. Thank you.
Every school I have ever looked at required inorganic and organic chemistry as prerequisites to biochemistry.
Yes, it seems most biochemistry courses for science majors require chemistry prerequisites. However, I found at last 4 online biochemistry courses that do not require inorganic and organic chemistry- they either don't require it or you only need an elementary chemistry course.

I have applied through National University and at least at the tim eof the orientation for the Nursing program they said it did not matter so long as the labs and lectures were both taken for each of the pre-requisites. They said there is no was to tell if the courses are online or in person because that information is not included on transcripts. However, I am still waiting on approval for courses I found through TUI University which I would like to enroll in to complete my pre-reqs. Best Wishes!!!
