Online Science Courses

Published

Hi all,

I thought that maybe it would be good to have a sticky for online science courses.

I am currently looking for an online/distance learning-- 4-- credit microbiology course. Of course it has to have a lab.

I know that both ccconline and Rio Salado offer these courses. Anyone have experience with either one of these in regards to microbiology, i.e. testing, level of difficulty, user friendly technology. I know from experience with Rio that the exams are proctored but how does ccconline deliver their exams?

If you have a link or resources to other colleges offering sciences--please post them here.

Has anyone taken organic chem through University New England or Iowa CC online? I am trying to decide which school to go through and would appreciate any advice! Thanks!

I'm enrolled for general chem I & physics I at OCC.

The financial aid office is hell. I hope they get everything processed in time.

well, well, well.............

turns out occ financial aid office is really backed-up (possibly incompetent).

i called the week before last and was told the my finacial aid would not be ready for a very long time and my best bet was to make payment arrangements. :uhoh3:

okie dokie, i'm already paying for one class at a separate university and really don't have the money to pay for occ too. i haven't been dropped yet. classes start on the 7th. i get paid on the 3rd. my plan was to wait until the 2nd, call again about my $$$ aid, if it still isn't processed i will drop 2 of my classes and just pay for the chemistry (since i got the ebook for free and we already have a syllabus, i hate it but i can't buy the hardcover till the 17th). i can swing that.

I just completed microbiology with lab on line through Ocean County College in New Jersey Ocean County College. It was a 4 credit easy "A". A friend enrolled in the same course but had to drop due to an early delivery!

do anybody know if OCC or EDUkan credits transfers to National university in Cali or another so cal college?:clown:

FYI: It takes 8-10 weeks for your financial aid to get processed at OCC. I just found this out today.

I got off the phone with OCC and was told that my financial aid should be processed by the end of October. I will be good to go for the Spring and Summer semester.

I decided not to pay for the chem class because my work schedule has become really crazy (mandatory 14-16hr days :( ).

I will be transfering to a new position so I will be good to go for the spring.

Oh well..............

Hi Knox,

Please let me know about the online Micro course you took at Ocean County. I would like to sign up for the particular course you took. Thanks! Ken

Hi,

I seem to be in a somewhat unique situation... I have 3 hours each of chem 1, anatomy, and micro but the school I'm applying to requires 4. Does anyone know of online lab only classes that are available? Everything seems to be the full 4 hour course, and although I'm sure it would be useful to have my memory refreshed, I'd rather not pay 4 times as much if I don't have to. Thanks in advance!

Otay.... quite a few pages back...someone had posted to try Rio Salado online in Tempe, AZ..she said that she thought that they offered lab only classes... the post was from 2007..so I don't know if that would hold true now..but it's worth a shot to check it out! HTH

Seriously.. how the hell does everyone decide on which school to go with.. seriously, I feel the more I read the more confused I'm getting... at first I thought..otay..I'm going with iowaonline....then I realized that I really need classes that are 100% online.. so then I thought CCC for sure.. but then I see people mentioning Ocean County College.. and then there is Clovis..and then Broone.. how the heck is everyone deciding? It's starting to drive me a bit crazy!!!:banghead: :lol2:

I am looking for an Organic Chem class online with an online lab. UNE and Weber are just way too expensive! Does anyone have any experience with iowacconline ? If i enroll, which professor does anyone recommend ? I cant seem to find any other school that offers this class online at an affordable price. Please help.

I've heard great things about Iowacconline! I was going to take my classes there..but then I found out about www.clovis.edu and decided on there because they are really inexpensive! I suppose if you live in Iowa..go for Iowacconline! Another school that I've heard about it that Suny one..don't remember the exact name but just do a search.... some school in New Mexico also comes to mind also..

Hope that helps hon!:D
