I am looking to find out if anyone knows of any good online RN to BSN programs. I have already looked at the Excelsior program and the University of Wyoming Programs. Those are the 2 programs that I could find that had reasonable cost. I cant exactly afford some of the $300 per credit hour courses. So if anyone knows of any other moderately priced online programs I would appreciate their input. Thanks for your time.
To stir the pot a little more, I am a paramedic with an associate in emergency medicine. I work as a FF/EMT-P on a 24/48 hr shift. There is no college or university in the state that would allow me into an RN program with my work hours. For me, Excelsior is the only option. I get a lot of exposure within the different settings in medicine and now that I am studying for my CPNE, I do feel confident that my knowledge and skills will be at least comperable to those from nearby traditional based programs. I have to do much of the same learning objectives, just not hundreds of times over and over again. I also had to complete 750 hours of clinicals in order to complete my paramedic program. I never griped that I was getting paid half the amount of an RN for doing twice the work in an unsafe environment. I just told myself to go back to school and get the education required and then gripe if I still felt like it. I have only spoken with 3 head nurses in local hospitals, and all three are requesting that I submit an application with them after NCLEX. I am only seeking part-time work, as even though I "gripe internally" about the pay, I love the excitement of the streets.
My original draw to this thread was the RN to BSN course. I too looked into USA in Alabama and found the same drawback, state license. I am thinking of the University of Pheonix and am looking for feedback from the group. I have never heard of the UofWy program, but will seek additional info regarding.
Now that the brew is mixed,

hello h60medic,
for years i planned on going to regents (now excelsior) but never did. I dreamed also for yrs of the 24/48 schedule cus i was used to 48/48 or 72/48....anyway, i finally got my rn the traditional way when i did have a 24/48 schedule by the way (last yr of nursing school i worked prn), and i had less clinical hrs in it than my paramedic class from 13 yrs before. anyhoo, good luck on your cpne, my wife is going thru excelsior and has her cpne scheduled for the coming months. as far as your bsn..u of wyoming is a very inexpensive school and looked good to me, but i am starting my bsn in may at florida hospital college of health sciences. they do not require you to have a fl licence (even though that is where i am at) and there is no clinical requirement. good luck.

I just got into a Master's Program and I received my Bachelors through Thomas Edison State College. I did it in a year and a half...it was great...no problem...I did all of my research online and submitted everything online...if you need anymore information let me know..

I just scheduled my CNPE and am waiting a date in Atlanta. I was unable to locate the program that you were referring to in FL. Do they have an on-line component?

I'm enrolled there as well. They have a 100% online component. http://www.onlinenursing.fhchs.edu/
Thanks for the info. I have already sent them an e-mail reqeusting enrollment information. Hopefully my MS license will suffice. I know that FL will only license Excelsior grads if they were prior LPN's, alas, I come from the paramedic field. It seems that they weigh each application indepentently, so I'll see.
Thanks again for the help,

Sorry for my flippant answer above.
I might also add, the number of nurses who graduate from online schools for their very first degree is small. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever come across one RN or LPN that didn't go the traditional route. Distance learning while growing is rare.
It's more common for RNs to go online to get a BSN, or an LPN to go RN (this seems a little less common, but I do know one LPN doing it and she has many years experience and plenty of hands on).
The bulk of of what I learned about nursing I learned that first year or so out on the floor, not in my clincals.
Anyway, enough of that.
