Health Care: The health care sector created 280,000 jobs since February 2009, led by solid growth in ambulatory care services - which includes offices of physicians and other health practitioners, outpatient care centers and home healthcare services. Healthcare is one of the largest industries in the US, employing 13.6 million people. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), "Career Guide to Industries, 2010-11 Edition" forecasts that the sector will generate 3.2 million new jobs between 2008 and 2018. This is more job growth than any other industry, mainly due to rapid increase in the elderly population.

i bolded the important part for you. the sentence says health care jobs not nursing jobs. there are lots of health care jobs out there as the article says mostly in ambulatory care and home health. for that matter there are still areas with nursing jobs available, but not every area.

I agree. There are healthcare jobs and nursing jobs. Just depends on the area. I'm sure say like Florida has numerous agencies to help the elderly stay in their home. And that need will only increase as we all age. Maybe these statistics will help boost the stockmarket which indirectly helps healthcare agencies hire. A very complicated system but very integral to nursing and I find the information helpful as I would like to be kept in the loop and keep my knowledge current with the times not bitter about not having the 'right' job.

On the home health agency topic - I suspect with the 'health care reform' when (or if) it happens, there will be alot more jobs in the 'pallative care' arena, such as home health and hospice. I doubt the elderly will be treated as medically agressively as they are now. What do y'all think?

Reading posts like these make me grateful for having a job, especially as a new grad. Im not 100 percent happy where i am but im ever so grateful for my job. Btw i find a job within weeks of passing boards and had about 3 offers at once.

That is ethically wrong. Who is anyone to judge who is worthy of aggressive treatment?

I am not judging, nor disagreeing with you......just suggesting what may be about to happen if Obamacare becomes a reality.

when reading your post i can hear the voices of the actors and actresses of fox noise and the crazy rants of glen beck and boss limbaaaaaaaah. advanced directives, hospice care, palliative care etc. are not tools and resources to be used by big-government as a way to kill off little old people and sick kids. they are used to serve millions of americans to ensure that their wish to live and die with dignity and respect are granted.

a public option (“obamacare” as you put it) allows all americans access to affordable health care; little old people and little kids will not be put to death or asked to hurry up and die because they are too sick. in fact, you and others can choose to continue paying high premiums. specifically, you and others can choose to remain a loyal customer of a private industry that will gouge you of all your worldly positions when you are sick before they drop you for having a preexisting condition!!! yes, you will have this choice! i, on the other hand, will make a different decision.

i will choose to tell my private insurers to not allow the door hit them on the backside on their way out of my life because i want something different. i want a government run program (a public option)! i want the same or similar health care system run by the government for our fine men and women in uniform (i miss it), our vets who use the va (i have family members who still use this...), and those who serve in congress and the senate. they all have the best health care coverage in the world because they are covered by a u.s. government run program. that is the reality unlike the fiction you suggest.

MBARN08 ~ I agree with you, I didn't mean 'obamacare' in a negative way. In context of the OP I was pointing out that there may be more nursing jobs opening up in areas such as hospice, home health than in hospitals.
