On-call pay

I was just curious if your hospital places you on-call if census is low, or there are just too many nurses scheduled that day. If you do have on-call (not canceled) how much are you paid and how long do you have to report to work if you are called in?

yep 3.25 an hour call-pay, must be available for the duration of the shift. i hate being oncall, but i guess 3.25 is better than NADA.

oh and we have 20 minutes to be in, except I live 40 min from one of the hospitals where I work...they know this and work w/me on it. The understanding is,I will be there as fast AND safely as I can and if it's en emergency, they pull someone up to cover the floor til I get there (usually the supe). SO far, has worked out fine (even tho we do our own csections).

We get 1/2 hour of pay for every 4 hours of call= 1 1/2 per 12 hour shift.....get time and a half if called in, and have 1/2 hour to get there...also time starts when they CALL you, not when you get there....we do our own time cards, no clock....

Thanks for all of the responses. I was talking to a couple of friends the other night who work for hospitals the cancel you instead of putting you on call. If they are canceled, they are free and clear even if their unit calls them 10 minutes later to see if they can work.

At my hospital, you get a flat $10.00 and must be available the entire shift and have one hour to get there if you are called in. If you are called in, you only get straight pay. I live 40 minutes from work and once I was called at 1300 hrs to work until 1500hrs. When I got there, I figured out that I got called in so that the nurse who called me in would ot get another admit. She wanted to get out of work on time so she had me drive 40 minutes each way to work about an hour and fifteen minutes. My NM saw what had happened (after I was already there) and was not happy about it. Now, we must get her permission to call in any on call staff.

I like the idea of only having to be on call until 2 hours before the end of the shift.

We have mandatory 8 hours of call every 17 days at $1.60/hr.

when they call us in, we are there for 4 hours minimum.....and PAID 4 hours' pay minimum, whether needed that long or not.

No on-call for the current job.

Last job was at a nursing outpost and we had one nurse on call each night.

$2.50 per hour for being on call. We got 15 minutes pay for a telephone consult and 4 hours minimum OT for a call in, all at time and a half. We did on call from 4pm when the clinic closed to 8 am when it opened on weekdays and 24 hours on a weekend. We were expected to be there within 10 minutes (you could walk anywhere in town in 5 and there were no roads out)

A whoppin' $1 an hour to sit at home all day wondering if you're going to get called in or not. If it is a regularly scheduled shift, it's regular pay. If it would be overtime anyway, it's still time and a half if you're called in.

My current travel contract pays $7.00 an hr. for call and time -and-a-half if called in. Needless to say - haven't been asked to take call much :)
