Oldest and youngest mothers?

Published

I've been wondering what the age group for deliveries were. WHat was your oldest mother and your youngest mother to deliever?

TIA

I cared for a 19 yo having her 5th child!!!!!!!!! She had her 1st at 13, all were singeltons.

The youngest patient I had was 12 and it was her second, she had her first at the age of 10.

The oldest patient I have had was 45.

I'm not an L&D nurse, but I do know that one of our major medical centers has had at least 2 11 year olds deliver babies within the past several years. The oldest that I've heard of locally was well into her 50s, and this baby (or babies, I can't recall) was conceived naturally. Another woman in her 50s delivered babies (quads, if memory serves) after IVF.

Youngest was 12- her mother tried to punish her by not letting her have pain meds after a c-section- I was fuming, where was she when the girl got pregnant ?- But she got her pain meds though!:angryfire I don' let people suffer!(This was not an incest or a rape either, it was completely mutual- the girl told me she had been having sex since age 10!)

Oldest was 56! She was a career minded doctor who waited until she was in her 40's to try, had fertility issues, after several rounds of fertility drugs and 2 attempts of in vitro, she finally delivered at age 56! She is going back to work, hubby took early retirement. He was an engineer. They were nice enough, but geez! Anyway, she did deliver lady partslly, had PIH, Gest. Diabetes, and hemorrhaged after delivery. Got a total of 4 units PRBC's. Her abdomen was bruised from all of the fundal massage she required after delivery. She had Pitocin in her IV, and got Hemabate x 2 doses. I know it could happen and does happen everyday to younger people, but I don't recommend having a baby at that age! I think at that age it is just selfish. My .02 though!

Not to split hairs, but my understanding is that sex with a 10-12 year old can't, by law, be consensual anywhere in the U.S. I suppose that law is dependent on the age of the partner, though. Do you happen to remember how old the father of these babies was?

During clinicals the girl was 12 but get this the father was 10!
i thought spermetogenesis didn't happen until adolescence?

As a midwifery apprentice, a 49 y/o amish woman having her 9th baby.

As a home health nurse, a 13 Y/o and her best friend who was 14. No, the babies don't have the same dad. Yes, the dad's are going to jail. And, yes, I'm sure they will have more babies soon, as thier mom's took over and they are not held accountable in any way.

As an aside, I had a 16 y/o client who went to the hospital because she felt really sick all day. Out came a 6.5 lb 35 weeker. Not too surprising, except her pediatrician (a very bright experienced woman), gave her a full physical 2 weeks before she delivered! So, next time someone says they really didn't know they were pregnant, I might believe them!

Oldest: 49, two days from 50. She thought she was going through menopause, till the pregnancy test came back.

:lol2: :chuckle I have no idea why I think that is so funny!

Youngest I have cared for: 11 yrs. and 11 months. Turned out fine; she is now in her late 20's and a physical therapist.

Oldest: 49; preterm triplets (GIFT after years of IVF); 2 have severe CP and one passed after 2 or 3 months. Mom is now 54 and boys are almost 5. She thanks God every day for her gift. She's also the March of Dimes Chairperson in our area.

The youngest patient I have personally taken care of had just turned fifteen and was having her second. Right around the same time, I had a patient who was 53. She had two much older kids and this was a much-wanted child of a second marriage.

I had a 52 y.o w/ triplets from donated eggs from her 24 yr. old daughter. The dad was in his 30's. (They were rather pampered to put it politely). The youngest I have ever seen was 11, whose mom had her older sister at age thirteen. Mom only visited the 11 year old pt. a few times during the six weeks we had her in the hospital w/ PTL. It was very sad.
