what i mean is the oldest college studying nursing in the world

or

what is the best the university of studying nursing in the world

One of the oldest schools of nursing in the US, is Long Island College Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY. The original hospital building dates back to the Civil War. The school of nursing dates back to the 1890's. I was in the 93rd (or something like that) class when I graduated.

I know that there are a couple of more schools that are as old, or older than LICH, but not many.

the florence nightingale school of nursing at king's college in london was established in 1860 and descends from the nightingale school for nurses at st. thomas' hospital in london.

in the us the first nursing program was established at columbia university in 1892 probably followed by the university of michigan in 1893. some people give credit to yale university which established the first autonomous nursing school in 1923.

linda richard is widely regarded as the first formally trained us nurse and received her diploma from the new england hospital for women and children in 1873. finally ethel bedford fenwick founded the british nursing association and became the world's first registered nurse in 1919.

as far as the best nursing school thats an opinion.

The Nursing Program at The Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences grew from the community’s need for skilled nursing care. It was organized, maintained, and directed as an

educational institution by public-spirited men and women from its inception in 1889.

A little off topic (sorry!), but North Carolina began registering nurses in 1903, the first US state to do so, so we beat Ms. Fenwick by a few years ... :)

Interestingly New Zealand began registering nurses in 1902, they list Ellen Dougherty as the first RN. I believe that the RN was not mandatory in either of these countries to work in nursing. Therefore, if I recall Ms. Bedford Fenwick's claim to fame is that she was the first mandatorily registered nurse in the world ;).

According to my text book:

In 1909 The University of Minnesota was the first university based nursing program.

Specializes in school nursing, ortho, trauma.

Rutgers University(8th oldest in US -est 1766) offers a great nursing program, but has only had the specific college of nursing for about 50 years or so, i believe.

I know this is off topic but, interestingly South Africa was the first country in the world to have registration of nurses in 1899, started by Sister Henrietta Stockdale, Australia followed in 1902
