Hey all, I am getting nervous.... in less than a month I will be going back to school at the age of 35 to begin my journey into nursing. I will be going to my local community college and will be going for the ADN program.
My fall semester classes...

Anyone else out there starting out below the normal prereq's? Would love to find someone to go through this with. Melissa
Hello all,

I am looking forward to being able to chat with others who are in similar situations. Good luck to all in your classes and such.

LOL--I didn't even read this thread at first because it said OLDER students...however, after peeking in and seeing what you folks consider OLDER (smile) I now know I can reply!!

Maybe we should change it . . . non-traditional, I'm 33 and I don't feel or look old, well to me anyway. I still consider myself a hottie. At least that's what my dh says.
Whatcha think non-traditional student?
I'm 42, starting CNA course at local CC next month, then on to gen. ed and pre req's for nursing school. I'm excited and overwelmed all at the same time! Also wondering if I should take any other classes while going through CNA class...? Maybe one thing at a time, not sure yet. Sometimes I feel I will be retirement age by the time I get out of school!
Good luck to you!!
Hi Melissa,
I congratulate you on your decision to do this. I'm a 31 yr old student and started fall of 06. You've already passed the biggest hurdle and that's getting past all of the excuses not to attempt this. Speaking from my own experience, I find it hard to locate any adult learners in any of my classes (A&P I and II, Microbio, etc..) that failed. The primary reason is that we have too much to lose. Our fear of failure propels us to succeed. I had such terrible test anxiety that after every test I took, I was certain I failed. I'm currently carrying a 4.0 GPA. With that said, you know it's not going to be easy. Anything worth having is not going to be. Find time to study and you will be fine.
Again, welcome to the club and God Bless!:welcome:

Hello to you all. I look at some of you say old, never too old I keep telling this 48 year old body. I am currently in my 2nd year part-time and will be taking
Biology 1 with lab
Intro to psycology
World History to 1500
Dosage Calculations
Hope I can do it but I will try hard
Good luck to you all and I support you all
Don't worry you are not alone, I am 31 years old and this fall I will be starting my General education classes!!! I was starting to think that I was the oldest person going to school to become a nurse. Some of the other sites for nursing were geared towards high school students, when I found this wonderful and very helpful website I finally realized that I was not alone. I can not wait until I get my ADN degree and become a registered nurse!!!hang in there yu can do this, every time that you feel overwhelmed or like giving up just remember why your here!!!
Hello, my sister in law started out 7 years ago when she was 32 and she just graduated as an RN in May, uuuuhhhhhh what's my excuse I thought! I am 28 and just starting out my reqs in aug. I never think it's too late, but I have been out of school for 10 and a 1/2 years and something I heard is not to let yourself fall behind, if you have been out of school for a while study till you drop so you can figure out how much time you really need to study. Good luck on your new adventure looks like were doing it together!!!!

Hello all! I'm Kim and I'm turning 37 in a few weeks and starting my prereqs in Sept.
Should be fun with an 8 year old, a 3 year old and a 7 month old, a house, a job, blah blah blah.
For once I'm doing something for ME...Imagine that. lol
I am unsure what I am taking as I meet my advisor next week.
I *think* I will be taking
Math 1500-Problem solving math
Intro to chemistry (need this to apply for ns in Jan)
Eng Comp (not sure if 1 or 2 yet)
Psych (if my credit doesn't transfer)
and some intro class I need for Financial aid or something.
We can all be in this together! I'm sure we will all need the support!
Kim
