Published

Hey all, I am getting nervous.... in less than a month I will be going back to school at the age of 35 to begin my journey into nursing. I will be going to my local community college and will be going for the ADN program.

My fall semester classes...

Mat101- begining algebra

Eng101- writing comp. 1

Bio112- Intro to anatomy & physiology

Anyone else out there starting out below the normal prereq's? Would love to find someone to go through this with. Melissa

Hi Melissa,

I'm not just starting out... But I am 33 and I'm into my second year of pre-reqs at my local CC. This will be my second degree, but I graduted the first time over 10 yrs ago.

Anyway... just wanted to tell you Welcome and Congrats on your newest journey! Good luck this fall! You will do great!

Hi Melissa. I'm not "new" to nursing, I've been an LPN for 12 years, but I am starting back next month to obtain my ADN. (I am 36). Since it's been so long since I've been in school, I have to redo my algebra classes and had never taken chemistry, so this fall I will be taking introductory algebra (even though I had two years of straight A's in high school:uhoh3:) chemistry, and sociology. Feel free to email me anytime, we can help each other.

Hey, I am 37 years old and returning to school to be an RN. This Fall will be my 3rd semester. For the summer I took A&P 1, very difficult class, but I am finishing it with an A.

I believe age should not matter, if you have a goal, go achieve it!

Hi Melissa,

I, too, am just starting my pre req's this fall. My schedule is similar to yours: Eng 101, Mth, and I am taking Nur100 (Nurse Assistant)

I am older too, 37!

Good Luck!

Hello...another 30's something here...!!! Were in this together!! I have kids, house, hubby, pets..u name it!!

Ive worked in this field for 13years and started at the very bottom..move up to Admin position...but finally woke up to my dream of doing the real thing...becoming a Registered Nurse. I have many more years ahead..better be doing what I love...and getting paid!!!!

In my 3rd semester of classes...still have a ways to go!!!!!

Just wanted to wish you good luck on your journey. It wasn't so long ago that I was starting out taking below college level math so I know what you are going through. Keep plugging away one class at a time and you'll be there be for you know it!

Melissa,

I'm just finishing my second seminster of pre-reqs. I just had my 46th birthday this summer. I'm taking it slow, first seminster did college algebra and ENG 101, took A&P I and Lab this summer. Final tomorrow. In the fall I'll take my next math and Eng 102 and A&P II. I apply to nurisng school by Aug. 31, but there is a year before I start (if I'm accepted) so I'll have that time to finish pre-reqs. I was very nervous going back to school but I've found it much easier than I thought it would be. Maturity is a definite advantage. I know I wouldin't have done this well in my twenties. Good luck and welcome to allnurses.com.

I started my pre reqs last year one class at a time because I work fulltime. Just recently I started taking two classes. Like you I am an older student just trying to get through the semesters until the goal is reached. I currently have 5 more pre reqs to take before I can apply for the nursing program.

Remember keep your head up let God's will be done in your life and you will be fine. Be proud of yourself.

33 here starting prereq's in the fall. Taking

Intro to Chem

Composition I

Math 40

Phys.

Right there with ya honey.

Hello Melissa,

My name is Melissa, also. That is another thing we have in common.... I am 36 and starting classes in a couple of weeks. I had previously taken business courses approx. 13 years ago. I, too, am having to play a little bit of catch-up. Out of the courses I had taken, only three will transfer; Algebra, English Comp. I, English Comp. II.

My fall classes are:

Human Physiology

General Chemisty I

American History

American Government

Intro. to Nursing

It is so refreshing to see I'm not the only one making a late start... Maybe we'll benefit from being a little more mature...:roll We should start a support group....huh? Anyway, I just wanted to say, "Hey" and let you know I'm here w/you.

Hey :)

I'm almost 38 and entering my 3rd semester in school. I applied for the local program to being in the spring and I'll know in a month or so if I got in.

Having been a student at both 18 and 38, there are definite differences. While I was a good student before, I am a much more dedicated student now. 20 years ago, I'd blow off a class to sleep in, etc.. but never once now!!! I think older people are very successful in school and I know you will be too :)

Good luck!!

Angelica
