Thank God for this post!! I have not been on here and the last two weeks i have been in the abyss......school speaking. I dont know what the heck happened....ive been pulling C's in my Human Bio class(pre req for Anatomy and Physio) and ive felt like a big failure. Ready to give up, not even doing my online assignment for English last week. This is not characteristic of me. What is my deal? I am a A- college student and ive been beating myself up, ready to quit because im not getting 98's or 100's.

When in doubt ask for credentials... You can do it with tact, you dont have to be in the face about it....there are ways. "You are very skilled, how many years have you been a Registered Nurse?" Very basic question? Dont let others getcha all rattled up...handle it and move on!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the advice..i was curious about this myself!! If its rote memorization..i should have no problem!! I love science and the chance to learn...thats how we grow..right?? Thanks alot!!!

Absolutely, with the way dr ofc's are set up and most medical establishments in general...very wise to make sure you know who you are talking to. sometimes verification is all thats needed!

This can get very complicated...i have worked in the admin role and working with R.N's...not good. I answered to the Director..an R.N. They assign duties and know where people cut corners and slack. Thats where I came in. Keeping things in order and following regs. Not all who work for you understand that there are fines and fees for not being in compliance....anyway i will stop here. too much. to me an LPN is a nurse...a Licensed Practical Nurse. I dont understand why it has to be so mean spirited...we are supposed to have the same goal..hopefully we do!!!!!!

Wow your are laid back...my spouse is the same way. Thats a good way to be!! I have worked with the nurses who think everyone is trying to take their license or question their competence...and the ones who are secure and dont really care what others say or think. I think some people make the "im a nurse" statement...maybe innocently..then there are some who know that they are trying to pull the wool over. Gotta watch for those. I was always told was that no one was a "Nurse" unless a "Registered Nurse" and unfortunately LPN's were not looked at as the same. I dont know...I just know we need quality staff with work ethic!!!!!! How bout it!!

I understand what is being said...i have encountered all of it myself..first hand. I guess the way it was said...the entire post. Personally, I have a problem with the fact that everyone in health care are wearing scrubs these days. You cannot tell the difference. And there is a difference. I believe that a Registered Nurse should have a distinct uniform or something that sets her/him apart from the rest. Color code or something.

Not a nurse here...but nursing student who began with a CNA position that led to " working my way up in a adult day facility" and very proud of it!!! Specialties...assisting nurses with all that they have to handle in day. Years of experience with patient care...priceless. I thought everyone on here understood who is who/and who does what? Maybe not. Can I say staying in "compliancy"?? Not a "stupid" thing.

Hello...another 30's something here...!!! Were in this together!! I have kids, house, hubby, pets..u name it!! Ive worked in this field for 13years and started at the very bottom..move up to Admin position...but finally woke up to my dream of doing the real thing...becoming a Registered Nurse. I have many more years ahead..better be doing what I love...and getting paid!!!! In my 3rd semester of classes...still have a ways to go!!!!!

Gosh...where do i begin?? As a child I was more of the "teacher" during playtime..but as i became older..my friends and I had all these little ladies that were shut ins that we would go visit on a regular basis...we would chat, and basically check on them. I think i was 8 years old. I was always more of the one who was always worried about others well-being. I was extremely mother-like from a very young age... Anyway, as time progressed i found myself inthe field of nursing and then exploring social work...working between the two and LOVING case management, advocacy, defending the rights of disabled. I have always seen my work as a ministry to others and see my patients as "divine appointments". I remember that i will grow older and i take my role/responsibility of patient care/advocacy with extreme care and urgency!!!! I love this work and I love to talk with others who do too!!!!!!!!!!! Yaaaaay!!!

Oops..i thanked ya..meant to reply... I got rid of my mega-mortgage payment, moved closer to pa/md line where my hubby is a police officer..and said enough is enough...i live in a wonderful farm house and im content. I said i can chase "material things" for the rest of my life. Getting my degree is something i have to do for every reason i can imagine. He only has 7 years left..by then i will be done and hopefully money wont be an issue anymore!!!

In the position that I previously held...i had numerous problems with "i just did"..or "why"...or "calm down". My intuition would have me plagued with emergencies/or potential ones/ i was always asking "did you"? "please check", "i would feel better if"... I would be at desk working in the books or handling calls and would jump off the desk and take off down the hall or across the building. Most of the time my concerns were justified...especially the look I would get when I would ask "where is so and so?". Alzheimers/dementia patients so we always had to be on the ball..and then some!!!!!!

Wow..we have alot in common..... Where are you attending school?? I live in Pennsylvania and will attend Harrisburg Area Comm Coll... What are you taking this sem??
