What are your pet peeves?
actually had a mother give me a long sob story in triage how she couldn't afford Tylenol to treat her child's fever, doc orders 8 free doses to send home with mom, while I'm in med room getting her free Tylenol, her boyfriend brings in breakfast for the whole family and coffee from McDonalds!!!

TEAS, what to expect?
I just took the TEAS and it was harder than I expected. There were students in classes with me with 3.5 GPAs and above that failed the test. I used the study guide from www.atitesting.com. It saved my life!!! I only studied the math part thinking I would just need a little refreshing. phhhttt! Study the science part over and over and over!!! That part kicked my butt!

I'm feeling overwhelmed!~
I feel you!!! You hang in there, it will be worth it. I am supposed to FINALLY start the nursing program this fall. It took me 6 semesters to get my pre-reqs done. I started only going half time and working Mon-Fri as a loan officer and weekends as a hospital registration clerk. That was taking too long so I took out a private student loan to pay off all my bills, sold my house, paid off my truck and quit the loan officer job to work midnights at the hospital. I make half of what I did but me and my husband moved in with my elderly father in law. He needed the help and living expenses are half what we were paying. Also what helps is, I took as many classes as possible online. Alot of your basics are offered that way and that way it makes your schedule a little more flexible. Where there is a will THERE IS A WAY!!

Working and Nursing courses
To offer a little I been there advice........A private student loan may not be this best thing. By the time the loan gets approved and the papers are signed it's NOTHING like they promise in all the commercials. I have one for 18K that in 2 years has accumulated over $4k in interest. The payments on it by itself will be over $300/month not speaking of the rest of my regular financial aid. Just really research it before you do it and READ THE FINE PRINT THOROUGHLY!!!!

Working and Nursing courses
You don't have to have any experience!! All it requires is computer experience, typing, and a high school diploma. I actually started this job as a weekend 2nd job after the company I worked for closed down. When I decided to go back to school, they agreed to work with me on my schedule. So I quit my 34K a year job to work full time. The money is not all that but they offer the Baylor's program and tuition reimbursment which is absolutely PRICELESS!!

Working and Nursing courses
Sometimes working while going to school is not a choice. I just finished A&P I with a A and I worked 40 hours the entire time. If you have to have a roof over your head and groceries, then God will provide a way. I work as a an admitting clerk in the ER midnight shift so I can go to school during the day. I just put all my classes on Tues and Thurs and we work 12 hour shifts. So I work Thurs,Fri, and Sat's and a 6 hr shift on Sunday nights. This has worked out wonderfully. Fall 2009 when I hopefully enter the program the hospital will transfer me to the floor to work the Baylor's program. I will work 12 hr shifts Sat and Sun and I get paid for 36 hours at about $2.50 more a hour than I do now so the 4 hr cut a week won't hurt so much. The hospital doesn't advertise they even offer the Baylor's and its for existing employees seeking their RN only. You could try to get a clerical job that way you have a foot in the door when it comes time. Don't worry so much! Where there is a will, there is a way!!

Anatomy & Physiology Fall 2008

Everyone Says I Must Be Crazy. I Work Full Time But This Would Be My Only Class. Any Thoughts? Anyone Been There? I'M STRESSING.

federal aid
Not Sure If I Can Offer Anything But I Has Some Serious Financial Aid Problems. I Applied To 15 Different Companies For Private Loans When Fafsa Wasn't Enough, Got Turned Down By All Of The Them Because Alot Of Them Are Need Based, I Made Over 30k A Year. Now I'm Quitting My 30k Job To Take A 15k Job So I Can Go To School Full Time, My Mom Had To Cosign The Private Student Loan For Me So I Could Pay Off A Whole Lot Bills. This Might Be Your Only Solution But Trust Me Try To Avoid Private Loans If At All Possible, My Payment On This One 18k Loan Alone Will Be Almost $300/mo Once I Graduate And That Doesn't Even Include Any Of The Gov't Money I've Received. But I Do Know The More Dependants And The Less Household Income The Better Chances You Have Of Getting "free" Money. So We've Decided For My Husband Not To Work, And Me To Continue To Work At A Local Hospital Because They Offer Tuition Reimbursement So Fall Of 09 I Ought To Rack Up In Grants.

Nervous - Informing boss of career change
I'm Amazed At The Number Of People Leaving Finance For Nursing. I've Been A Finance Manager And Worked In This Field For 7 Yrs Now. I Did Two Semesters Part Time And Decided I'm Too Old, (32) For This To Take 10 Yrs So I Took A Much Lesser Paying Job On Midnights So I Can Start Full Time Next Week. I Had Heard The The President Of The Bank Which I Work For Had A Habit Of Telling People To Go Ahead And Leave When They Turned In Their Notice So I Just Did It. Everyone Has Been Very Supportive And The 11th Is My Last Day.

Fall '07 Grades!! Be Proud!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS. I'VE COMPLETED TWO SEMESTERS PART TIME AND HAVE MANAGED TO KEEP A 4.0 EVEN THOUGH WORKING UP TWO JOBS. I GAVE UP MY MUCH HIGHER PAYING JOB TO ACCEPT A MIDNIGHT POSITION AND GO TO SCHOOL FULL TIME NEXT SEMESTER; I WAS REALLY WORRIED ABOUT WORKING FULL TIME AND GOING TO SCHOOL FULL TIME. YOU ARE PROOF I CAN STILL DO WELL BECAUSE I'M ONLY TAKING 4 CLASSES INSTEAD OF 6. THANKS FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT.
