Hello my fellow nursing students. I will be starting my nursing classes on July 6. That's only 12 days from now! I'm both excited and nervous. We had our first orientation yesterday, well it was more like a meet and greet. I have been on YouTube all day looking at videos on nursing school supplies. So I will be starting my school shopping this week. When did you get your school supply list? I was hoping to get mine at orientation, but nope no list! I hope that we can keep each other encouraged through the process. Congratulations to everyone who got accepted into the program.
Class of 2017 woooo!!! Congrats to all! I don't start until 8/26 but it's already been a whirlwind of doctor and lab appointments, paperwork, and searching for books and supplies! I bought my scope from redding medical and the ID tag from medisave. My texts mostly came from Amazon, but j snagged a couple from a nursing group on Facebook for super cheap. Clinical bag I bought a thirty one organizing utility tote and now I'm on the hunt for some white nursing shoes. Congrats again!
I had teachers that I learned never tested from material in the book, no matter what class they taught. By the end I didn't even rent books for their classes, I saved the money and bought more coffee.I'm not an investor in this site. I just like sharing good ideas.
More coffee is always a plus. I'm a big coffee drinker already; I'm thinking I should hit up the coffee brands I use and see if they'll sponsor me for nursing school hahaha.
And your ideas are very appreciated!
I'm a semester behind everyone. I don't start until January. My last semester ends in December 2017 but I won't walk until 2018. My school only has commencement in the Spring. I don't know if I belong here or not
Hey there :). I also begin my program in January 2016. My graduation date could either be in May 2017 (ADN) or March 2018 (Diploma) depending on which program I officially accept acceptance to.
Best Wishes and Congratulations!

I have already advised family and friends that they should invest in coffee. With as much of it that I will be going through over the next few years it would be a good investment, lol.
Hi, I am doing an ADN starting in Sept. My orientation is in August! I am so excited. I have also gotten a Littman and awaiting it arrival. I got it from allhearts.com because I wanted my name ingraved on it! I don't want it to "walk away". I am getting the simple things like a pen box, clipboard for clinicals and a 3" binder, I got a scrub pocket organizer and some pen lights! I am just going to enjoy the rest of the summer and get my books in July so I can skim through and read. I am excited to share stories with all of you!
I'm starting an ADN program in the fall. I'm nervous, but also really excited! I'm hoping to continue for my BSN in the future.
We had our orientation last month, and we're having another little info session in August. I've been running around trying to check off everything on the "to do" list they gave us! (Urine test, physical exam, background check, immunizations...)
We got a syllabus for the first two weeks of classes at orientation, but I think we'll have to wait until classes start to get the entire syllabus.
Can anyone offer some good strategies for staying organized?

For staying organized a few things I would suggest. First get yourself a good planner, one that has plenty of space for each day to write down things that you need to do. I also like using dry erase boards, I have one which is a monthly calendar that I can write important things on like exams, meetings and such. I also have a dry erase size is about a two by three that I divided into seven columns that I use to write down the things that I need to do that day. Each column is dedicated to one day of that week. I write down study times, what I need to study, class times, work if working that day and even plan some "me time" into the week. As I complete a task for that day I can check it off. At the end of the week I set up the board for the next week. The dry erase boards I have hanging up next to my desk to help me focus on what I need to do. This system seemed to work pretty well during my prereqs. I am sure that I will need some adjustment once the nursing program starts.
Some people like using the calendar on their phone, but I find it helps to physically write things out. Also there is great satisfaction when a task can be checked off.
