OHSU BSN Fall 2017

Published

Hi all I just thought I would start this, since there doesn't appear to be anything started for the Fall 2017 3 year BSN at OHSU. Feel free to update as you get emails regarding interviews, acceptances, etc. This week it looks like everyone should be hopefully getting a email hearing something if they are chosen for a interview. I wonder if due to the lack of any posts for the Fall 2017 that means that competition isn't as fierce as in prior cycles... this is probably not the case. But it seems like the cohort has been alot more quite then in the past.

I am. You can find the schedules online. I think you can Google ohsu son schedule and it should pull up. They don't really change year to year.

We have had classes Tuesday and Wednesday with clinical Thursday and Friday all this year. First and second term we had long days Tuesday and half days Wednesday. This term we only have one lecture each day.

So it looks like based on last year I can expect class on

Tues 0900-1150, 1300-1450

Wed 1300-1450

Thurs 0700-1800

Fri 0700-1800

for fall term. That sound about right?

Yeah but you won't have class that long on Thursday. There are morning groups and afternoon groups. So it's broken up. You will be in skills lab. There are a couple longer days but not many.

Is anyone out there a current PCC student? Just a few questions regarding what supplies we will need and also what the schedule will possibly look like? Thanks!

Hi, can you tell me where the classes take place? At the SON building or elsewhere. Trying to figure out how I am going to park and where.TIA

Is anyone else on the OHSU "highly likely" alternate list?

I am for the Monmouth campus

I have a supplies question for everyone starting school this fall. Since it's National Nurse's Week many of the stores (online as well as physical) are offering some pretty great deals. I am trying to decide between the Littmann Classic II S.E. and the Littmann Classic III. This is a different model than the very expensive Cardiology III. The price difference between these 2 is only about $10 at most. From what I can tell the Classic III has a bit better sound quality, a longer warranty and the tubing doesn't stain. Does anyone have experience or know of anyone with experience with these models and can offer some suggestions. I've also heard it's worth the money to get both the head and tubing engraved as these instruments sometimes "walk off" or are accidentally misplaced. Just curious if anyone out there has any thoughts?

You can use the "compare" feature on the Littmann website to see the specs side by side. To me the Classic III and the Classic II S.E. are very similar and have very similar performance. I have used different Littmann Classic stethoscopes side by side with my Littmann Cardiology III and honestly can not tell the difference. As a nursing student my ears are not trained enough to use the Cardiology to its full potential.

Because the two are so similar and the price is so close I would look at the type of chest piece on both, as that seems to be the main difference and see which you think best suits your needs. Also because they are so similar I would put more weight on the warranty as well as which one comes in a color you like best.

I am on the fence about engraving, what I think works best is to get your stethoscope in a unique color. I think people are less likely to walk off with something unique and identifiable. Lastly, because my stethoscope is black and silver (like the majority of other ones I see) I make a big effort to just keep it in my pocket or around my neck. I figure that if I dont set it down or lend it to someone, then I cant lose it.
