  1. Hi All! Can't believe in less than 1 month we begin our journey!!! I was wondering if anyone remembers from the orientation in June when we can expect to find out our clinical schedules? I was reading the notes I took and I wrote down we essentially have the same schedule all year but didn't write down when we can expect to receive it. After registering on the 24th was just trying to get an idea of what fall quarter will look like to prepare for childcare and such.
  2. When you got your name tag for your stethoscope did you get one of the yoke styles or just one that attached anywhere on the tubing? Found several styles and was wondering if one was better than the other as far as staying out of the way? Congrats on your job! Was it hard to find one or did you have options right after graduation?
  3. Does anyone use a stethoscope case for protection purposes or do you normally just have it attached to your body at all times? There are so many items/accessories out there to purchase it seems a bit overwhelming. Trying to determine what is actually beneficial to purchase if anything. I know the ID tag is pretty much a definite but thinking maybe the rest will be purchased if we realize we actually need it. I'm for sure stocking up on small notebooks to fit in scrubs right now while back to school supplies are on sale. I've heard they are a must?!??!
  4. I don't think so, it's more of a personal preference. I purchased the Littmann Classic III and got plum. I've talked to others who say that having a unique color helps your stethoscope from gaining "legs"!
  5. Just 2 more days until orientation! I'm so excited- I can't wait to get more information about what is in store for us these next two years and meet some fellow cohort members. See you all there!
  6. First I would like to tell you all to NOT give up! It took me a year to get into nursing school and making myself as competitive as possible. I did end up re-taking the A&P sequence to get A's and this time around I applied to 5 schools and got into 3. I applied to Clark and a few in the Portland area as I live in SW WA. I ended up giving up my spot at Clark as although it's a great school and super difficult to get into I did extensive research and realized schools on the other side of the river (they are just as competitive) have an excellent reputation in the healthcare community and higher NCLEX pass rates than Clark. I would suggest before accepting a spot anywhere make sure you do your research in these areas. I know several physicians and nurses who practice at multiple area hospitals and they have all said hands down PCC and CCC nursing students are by far the most trained and prepared. As far as respiratory therapy I also applied to MHCC's program for a fall start and was accepted. It's a great program and it's a great school and it was a tough decision for me but I ultimately decided to follow my dreams of becoming an RN. Keep in mind potential job opportunities when deciding between nursing and RT. You are correct that many of the prerequisites are similar to the nursing pathway. I know at my interview at MHCC they mentioned that in Oregon there were only 2 community college's that offered this program and one of them was eliminating theirs so it made the applicant pool even higher at MHCC. I would be SUPER cautious about for profit schools as many times your credits earned there will not transfer should you decide to pursue your degree further. An example would be receiving your ADN and then wanting to move forward to get your BSN you essentially have to start all over. This was confirmed by WSU-Vancouver RN-BSN nursing program. Sorry for the winded reply but just wanted to provide some information as I've been there. Don't give up on your dreams, you might have to re-take a class but you will get into a program and all this stress and hard work will pay off- trust me!
  7. kcheck5 (or any current PCC students) just curious as to what we can expect once Fall quarter starts? What are the classes like? Are tests similar to A&P as far as memorizing loads of information or is it more critical thinking? During clinical/labs is it similar to taking the CNA license test or is it more like focusing on assessing our skill? I'm super excited yet super nervous! Thanks for all your help!
  8. Thank you so much! Beyond helpful information. I'm assuming at the June orientation we get an idea of an exact supply list as well as what we can expect as far as our schedule? There's an orientation in September shortly before fall quarter begins but I'm hoping we know this info more towards the June timeline so we can prepare. I found a great scrub store in Clackamas that has a discount for PCC students so bought my stethoscope from them. I'm hoping the information I received was correct - any scrubs are fine as long as they are solid navy both top and bottom and shoes can be either white or black?
  9. Thank you so much for your response. I'm going to order the classic III as it's equivalent to the classic II S.E. but has the peds diaphragm as well as the adult. I feel like it's a great option to have as I have no clue where I will ultimately end up. Found it online for basically the same price as the classic II so figured why not?!? Congrats on almost being done with the program- what an accomplishment! I'm so excited for fall quarter to start! What other supplies did you need? I already have navy scrubs and white shoes and am told PCC students wear navy and the shoes are a personal choice as far as color. So having these supplies on hand already is great! Anything you recommend doing over summer to prepare for fall quarter? Thanks for all your help!
  10. This is a great idea! Thanks for starting this thread. I am so excited to meet everyone and begin this journey in September. I just posted this in another thread so thought I would copy/paste here in case anyone has info: I have a supplies question for everyone starting school this fall. Since it's National Nurse's Week many of the stores (online as well as physical) are offering some pretty great deals. I am trying to decide between the Littmann Classic II S.E. and the Littmann Classic III. This is a different model than the very expensive Cardiology III. The price difference between these 2 is only about $10 at most. From what I can tell the Classic III has a bit better sound quality, a longer warranty and the tubing doesn't stain. Does anyone have experience or know of anyone with experience with these models and can offer some suggestions. I've also heard it's worth the money to get both the head and tubing engraved as these instruments sometimes "walk off" or are accidentally misplaced. Just curious if anyone out there has any thoughts

  12. Are you going to PCC?
  13. Is anyone out there a current PCC student? Just curious about what supplies we will need for fall and what our potential schedule may look like? Thank you!

  15. At our proctored essay they stated that they were accepting either 62 or 64 (can't remember which one) for the fall cohort. Historically they took 80 students and placed around the same amount on the wait list. I'm not exactly how far through the wait list they get though. did they tell you what number you are on the wait list? I've heard they normally get half way through but then again this is just "rumor". Have you applied to other schools as well?
