Hey guys! I wasn't able to find a thread for students applying for the June 2017 start so I decided to Start one.
I thought it might be nice to hear from other prospective students going through the process. I submitted my application the first week of November and while I don't want to wish the holiday season away I'm already impatient to hear something back.
Hi AmyS4--I have a 3.7 cumulative, 4.0 in prereqs (the admissions folks mentioned that they want students to do really well in these classes), GRE 159 verbal, 159 quantitative, 4.5 writing. Also, it's worth mentioning that I applied last year and didn't get in. For the past year I've really focused on showing interest in the program and diversifying my experience within nursing. During our interviews this year, one of the faculty mentioned that they pay attention to students who reapply. It's a small cohort, so I do think reapplying will show your determination and commitment to midwifery. Best of luck, and I hope things work out!
Hi Lachuparosa and Midwifegoals! I found out I was accepted also! I honestly wasn't expecting it so Yay! Where are you guys from? I was also accepted to Yale and have been trying to decide where to go but I'm pretty positive I'm going to choose OHSU. Are you two going for sure? I would love to connect before we start class! Ahh I'm so excited and SO nervous! AmyS4 I know this is important for you and your family. I have heard really good things about people who apply more than once and it sounds like you are really committed to midwifery and I'm sure reapplying will also show that you are committed to this program. My stats are: 3.89 GPA, 4.0 in prereqs, 161 verbal, 148 quantitative, 4.0 on the essay, maybe a 4.5 I can't remember? I didn't do very well on the GRE but my score was enough so I didn't retake it. That was on my list to do if I didn't get in this round. I also had a pretty wide variety of experience as well as experience as a wild land firefighter/fire crew dispatcher which I talked about a bit. I hope this helps!
Hi Isabellaandemeline--congrats on OHSU and Yale! I'm pretty sure I'm going to OHSU. I also got into Vanderbilt, which is a close second for me (has many of the same qualities as the OHSU program), but my family is from Portland and I've been living here for the past couple years. I honestly feel like I'd be more successful if I stayed put and was able to rely on my current support network. Truthfully, I didn't think I would have options-- I figured admissions would make my choice for me! I would love to connect before June with you and any other cohort members who stumble across this feed! Best of luck with the decision making!
Midwifegoals, congratulations on OHSU and Vanderbilt! I have heard amazing things about Vanderbilt too! That is also a rough choice and yes I figured admissions would make the choice for me too. I am 95% sure I'm picking OHSU for the same reasons as you. I have an 11 month old baby and packing up the family to move across the country on top of such a rigorous school experience sounds crazy hard! I added you as a friend here. I'm not sure exactly what that means but I think there is a way we can message privately and connect over e-mail or facebook eventually. Hopefully when everyone from midwifery decides where they are going OHSU will let us know who will be in our cohort and we can make a facebook group and get to know each other a bit more and share thoughts! Lachuparosa I will add you as a friend too!

Hello! I think you were at the dinner/gathering with me in January. I was a homebirth midwife. I look forward to connecting again. Not sure how to PM but lets stay in touch! Also. .. what are you doing for childcare? I have a 7 month old that I've been home with. Starting to look for something.
Hi Lachuparosa! I'm so glad you got in also! Yes, we were at the dinner together! I'm not sure what to do about childcare. My husband and I are trying to figure that out! I looked into some daycare but it is CRAZY expensive and I'm already not going to be working etc. Do you have a plan? We should connect and maybe we can do combined childcare and cut the cost for both of us and still get an awesome provider? Just a thought, obviously we need to figure some more stuff out but this is my #1 worry going into this program.
I'm in the same spot...I interviewed for the CNM program too and haven't heard anything :/ I'm a little frustrated that they wouldn't send out all the decisions at once, I was really sad to find to out that I most likely didn't get in from reading this thread haha. Hoping for the waitlist still but I have no idea when they will be handing down those decisions!
