Hey guys! I wasn't able to find a thread for students applying for the June 2017 start so I decided to Start one.
I thought it might be nice to hear from other prospective students going through the process. I submitted my application the first week of November and while I don't want to wish the holiday season away I'm already impatient to hear something back.
Sorry for my late reply. I think Jeremymgood is right, they only added one more day and they told us decisions would be mailed to us next week. I heard of someone getting called this week and told she was accepted but I have not been called. Hopefully we will get letters next week!
Here are my stats:
A lot of volunteer work (including Americorps) and shadowing a psych NP
leadership role in a community health center for the last two years (working with psych NPs)
pre-reqs - 3.8 (have not taken genetics yet)
cumulative 3.2, general science degree and psych minor
high writing score, above average math, below average verbal
I really stressed working with underserved communities and wanting to do a leadership role in my essays/interview.
Your experience sounds great though! I have faith that you'll get in somewhere! Keep plugging along :-)My cumulative GPA is only a 3.5 and my GRE scores were low. I still somehow got an interview at UCSF, which is still quite shocking to me. Perhaps because I did well in the prerequisites and have a lot of experience working/volunteering abroad and with the homeless population. Who knows if I'll actually get in there though, as their PMHNP cohort is like 8-10 people. Yikes! I also applied to the Accelerated BSN program at OHSU, so maybe we'll hear back about that.
Congrats on UCSF! :-) That is an amazing program! I didn't even bother to apply since I thought I would get rejected right away.
Thank you everyone! I am so excited!!!! :-)
I want to say sorry but honestly I believe what is meant to be will happen for you. You don't want to attend a school that is not a good fit for you, and you might not be able to see that right now. You took the first and most important step by putting yourself out there and being vulnerable. Rejection sucks and hurts - I would know because I applied to SU last year and didn't get in but it encouraged me to apply to more schools and go outside of my comfort zone. I also have been rejected from other schools I applied to this year. NEVER give up on your dream! I promise you will realize at some point why this year (or school) wasn't meant to be for you but NEVER GIVE UP! Enough passion can get you anywhere in life!!! We will all be ARNP some day!
Thank you for the words of encouragement! I definitely needed to hear this right now. I was also rejected from SU last year, and was unfortunately just waitlisted at UCSF this year. However, I will take your advice and keep plugging along (with hopes that I miraculously make it off this waitlist ;-). Every year I get a little closer - it's just been a very slow and grueling process. I am from the Portland area originally, but have been living in Seattle for over 4 years. If you need any advice on where to live, etc., don't hesitate to ask!
Congratulations on getting into OHSU! They are lucky to have you.
I appreciate the encouragement, although in my situation, I'm the mother of a transgender son in high school, my daughter was born in Portland, and my partner is a Portland Public School teacher. We are firmly rooted in Portland and won't be able to look at other areas (even though I'm originally from back east). I was a midwife for 7 years and have been pursuing a healthcare career for 14 years. My dedication and commitment is not lacking. Lol. Best of luck on your new journey! I think you'll love Portland.
I wonder if you could speak to the steps you took between last years application rejection and this year? Did you talk to admissions about how to strengthen your application, retake a class to improve your prerequisite GPA or retake the GRE? I'm just starting to look at ways I may improve for next round. Thank you!
I contacted them on February 10th when someone on a different forum suggested it because she had been selected for an interview but hadn't received the email. The response I got was:
"Thank you for contacting the OHSU School of Nursing. The first round of applicants have been selected for interviews. All applicants will be notified of whether or not they are chosen for an interview, but other applicants can still be called in for an interview if necessary. Admissions decisions will be sent out shortly after interviews have concluded."
It was received by another applicant as well. I hope we hear something soon. Best of luck to you and your family. â¤ï¸
I interviewed a few weeks ago for midwifery as well and am still waiting to hear. I wonder what their definition of "shortly" is? I'm also a Portlander and my life is quite rooted here...I got into a couple other CNM programs around the country but getting into OHSU would make life much easier! I hope they consider geography and students' personal lives when making decisions. Good luck--this is nerve racking!

For the PMHNP program I had heard they were adding one day this week. I got a phone call several weeks before my interview, so I don't think they will be calling anyone else, but I could be wrong, I don't represent the program.
