OHSU ABSN 2019-2020

Published

Hi all! Is anyone an applicant for the ABSN program for the 2019-2020 cohort for OHSU? It's such a competitive program and I'd love to share insights and chat with anyone else going for it this year. As you might be able to tell, I'm applying for the nurse-midwifery program. My stats aren't that great but I'm going to cross my fingers and hopefully learn from the experience ?

Does anyone know any info regarding the interview questions?

And do most of you pick fall or summer as start term in your NCAS application?

@abcdenrse I’ve heard that the interview questions hit on similar topics to the questions on the application. But that’s all I know. Anyone else know what they are like?

and I am hopeful for the summer cohort ?

I applied as well! I’m so anxious to hear back. It was nice to read that some others don’t feel like their applications are that strong. I think my chances are probably average, not great, but not awful. Can’t wait to hear back about interviews.

I picked summer too.

Are people comfortable sharing their stats and experiences? It would be cool to know what all of our backgrounds are!

My overall GPA is 3.9 and I’m not sure what my pre rec gpa is but it’s a little lower and I haven’t finished nutrition or genetics yet.

My hospital experience comes from working as a rehab Aide in acute care for the last year and a half. I mostly work with med/surg patients and ICU/IMCU. I had gotten into an OT program and realized after working in a hostpital that nursing is a better fit for my skills and personality. I am so excited to provide up close, comprehensive, and collaborative care to people.

What is your background?

3.9 is really high! what's your major?

Wow 3.9!! My overall GPA is much lower, around 3.3. Which I'm really nervous about ?My prereq GPA is 3.9.

I'm a part time doula but otherwise not much medical experience. Most of my hospital experience has really come from being on the job and being motivated to make a difference. This will be my second time going back to school so I'm much more prepared this time around.. that is, if I can get in! ;)

Does anyone know how not having all the prereqs done affects overall competitiveness of an applicant? I have a 3.86 overall GPA and a 4.0 prereq GPA, but I'm still finishing up A&P II, Genetics, and Nutrition this semester.

It won't affect your competitiveness. Is your school in quarter or semester system? Meaning do you have A&P III left or A&P II is the final class in the series?

That’s amazing! My overall is a 3.7, so far my prerequisite gpa is a 4.0, but I am still finishing up some of them. I’m taking stats, A&P 2, and microbiology this term, next term I’ll finish up the anatomy series and do developmental psych (my previous minor is in psych but since I didn’t take that exact class ?.) My first degree is in History so I was missing a lot of the hard sciences. I’m concerned as I don’t have any actual patient care experience. I’ve worked the clerical side of medical clinics for about 3 years now and have felt unfulfilled not being able to be hands on in patient care which is why I’m now pursuing nursing.

Cool, thanks!! I'm on a semester system, so I won't have to do an A&P III. Reading through this thread, looks like a lot of people are still finishing up prereqs. Good luck, y'all!

All my pre-reqs are complete, but from what I've read in past boards, lots of people make it to the interview stage without having all prereqs completed, so long as they are currently taking them and have a plan to complete before the start of the program.
