Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

I took the class a while back but remembered thinking that the bundle wasn't necessary. A coworker was asking me about this class, but I couldn't remember why I thought getting the bundle was a waste of money

What professor would anyone recommend for stats?

I don't think you get a choice. What professor you get depends on if you are a BSN completion or Academic Outreach. Completion has Dr. K and I believe that Outreach has Dr L. I am just finishing up with Dr K and she is absolutely outstanding!!

Yes, I'm in the BSN completion program. That is good to know. I was concerned on whether stats is doable.

I'm in Outreach, and I signed up with Professor K. When I looked for classes, I saw which professor was teaching which section. Since I heard good things about professor K, I chose that section. I am glad I did.

That is good for people to know. There was a huge fuss over Business Comp (Jr English) when people thought one professor was so much better than another. I personally did not care - just wanted done. Completion students were wanting in this one professors class - people got switched out - horrible horribe. LOL> I had the "hard" professor and ended up getting a 99.98% in the class without using any of the ton of extra credit that professor gave.

I am going to take 2 gen ed courses at my local community college this spring. I wont be taking any OU courses. What do I have to do when to take something in the summer?

If you take time off, they have a form you fill out to return. I would email your advisor to find out exactly what you need to do.

I would be careful about skipping Spring at OU altogether. I think you have to do some type of reapplication. If you were to take ONE 5 week class at OU within one session in the spring it keeps you active...otherwise I think you have to jump through some hoops to be back for summer session.

Apparently my advisor quit, waiting on a new one. The 2 courses that I am taking are both a full 15 weeks, I can't add another to it, even if it is 5 weeks.

Because of semsters, they wont post official grades until the end of the semester, there fore I can't get the tuition reimbursment from my job. Without that I can't afford OU tuition. Community college is less than half of OU. at least this keeps me in school and working toward my degree.

It's less than ideal, but it is all I can do for now.

I am registering for Dr. K's class for this spring.. I am glad to hear she is great! I am not looking forward to Stats!

It was my favorite class! And I am definately math-phobic. Dr K made it fun and interesting. good luck
