Ohio University RN-to-BSN Program

Nursing Students Ohio University

Since it seems that there's quite a bit of interest, I'm attempting to start a new thread devoted exclusively to the OU on-line RN-BSN program that will hopefully build on the comments on assorted previous threads.

I'd like to ask nevergonnagiveup, mtsteelhorse and babynurse73 - all of whom (I think) are either already in the program or have applied for admission - to post about their experiences. I just sent in my application and plan to post periodically about relevant issues. If we can populate the thread with good material, it could become a very useful resource for both those considering the OU program and students already in it. Once that happens, I'd hope we could prevail upon the forum moderators to make it a sticky thread.

As indicated, I've only recently applied to the program. So far, I'm happy with the support and information I've gotten. I've been contacted by an OU "enrollment specialist" who was somewhat helpful (I suspect that they have dual roles, one being to provide basic information to prospective students and the other to follow-up with the prospects and help to fill the roster for the program). This person e-mailed me, followed up with a phone call and was able to provide some useful, if basic, information about the program. I also sent a lengthy e-mail to OU with quite a number of specific, detailed questions. This too resulted in both an e-mail and telephone response, this time from an academic advisor in the OU School of Nursing. Again I received some useful and quite helpful information. All in all, my early experience has been pretty positive.

As indicated above, I plan to post about relevant issues that come up as I work my way through the admission and evaluation process. I'd very much like to hear from others about their experience with OU and I'm sure that there will be a lot of interest by others in our collective experience with the program.

I have not taken the classes in order either. I have taken 5 nursing classes already and I'm taking the Fashion and Culture class now.

I'm 1 class shy of being done. I'd say don't waste your $$ buying that APA book. NEVER USED IT. I refer to Purdue as well as the APA post that most instructors tend to send out during the first week of class. Also, you don't have to take classes in a particular order (unless you are taking research and need statistics), then you have to take stats with or before taking research. GL with soon having a baby and being in the program......

Thank you. I'm a little nervous about it, but I only work part time so I think I will be ok. I figure there are people who have a family, work full time and take a couple classes. I'm going to stick with 1 class for now and see how I do. My husband is very supportive, and helps out a ton with our 3 year old. So I know I can depend on him to take up the slack when I'm busy:)

I have not taken classes in any order. I am taking 2 nursing classes at a time and sometimes add in an elective! I just take the combination that works for me. With that being said....I'm tired, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Great I'm not going to stress it then. I will take what is available when it's there and throw in any electives I need. Thanks for the input!

Anybody have advice on pairing a nursing course with an elective??? I heard Music 120 was pretty easy but the school can't tell me when it is being given again, or any elective for the summer......go figure......

I thought the Legal & Ethical class was easy, but it will be a combined class in the Fall. I thought Cultural Diversity was a lot of work the first week and then got better.

The assignment in the Fashion and Culture class was due on Friday instead of Saturday like in the nursing classes.

From what I hear, nursing 455 is a lot of busy work. About 8 assignments (one updating resume and one on professional development) and discussions. Don't think there are any quizzes. I take in March, so we'll see.

And Music w/Prof B is hands down the easiest class at OU!!

I talked with a rep. back in November (I graduated this past Dec.). I was told that as long as I had a scheduled date to take my NCLEX I could apply. I applied right before Christmas, I took my NCLES Jan. 17. I'm still waiting to hear anything back. I figure I won't start until summer or fall. In the mean time I'm taking college algebra and chemistry at my local community college.

Question:

Have any of you applied and been accepted before you passed NCLEX? I spoke with one of the reps a few months ago and asked if I needed to pass NCLEX before I applied and he didnt seem to have an accurate answer for me.

I graduate in June and hope to take NCLEX by August at the latest, but I wanted to get the ball running on applying to RN-BSN programs.

Yes…PLEASE keep us posted!!! :)

Hopefully there will be a devoted thread for nursing class 455 (4600), since many of you are almost there!

My TA nitpicked everything I did in this class. Every week I had at least 2 refereed citations in my post and another one in my responses. It was just harder for me for some reason.

Intervention was a breeze, as was diversity. Family nursing had a lot of busy work, but it was not a difficult class.
