Has anyone attended their program or know anyone who has. They are saying the FNP takes 27 months and the entire cost is $22,100. The cost makes me weary :uhoh3: Trying to find reviews on the internet but not having any success.

Congratulations capdistreas

Isn't the ANP credential one that is being retired? Check the APN section here at AllNurses - there is a fairly long discussion about what credentials are being retired. I know the CNS is one. On another note - I think it depends on where you live but around here FNP's are hired in the ED before ANPs because they can see patients of all ages not just adults. Good luck no matter what you choose!

Fairly sure rninme is correct on the phasing out of the ANP. If Wilkes offers both tracts you'll need to compare the two schools and choose which best meets your needs. Congratulations and best of luck to you! Let us know what you decide.

I think I am going to go to Ohio University since I want to have the most options available after I graduate and it sounds like the FNP would do that for me. Has anyone been through Ohio's FNP program already? I have 11 graduate credits already, Theories, Research, and Healthcare Policy that they are currently reviewing. Does anyone know if they usually accept transfer credits? Does that allow you to graduate earlier or do you just take less classes those semesters? Also, how many credits per semester do most students do full time? How much study time is actually required per class? I asked a lot of these questions of the admissions counselor but I seem to only get one answer for every 4 questions so I would love feedback from someone who has been through it. Thanks guys!

I have not been through the program but the consensus from some students is to allow 40 hrs/week for classes. Yep, FT hours for the program. You take one class every 7 weeks unless that has changed. The admissions adviser I spoke with said it's quite doable to work FT and attend the program. I have my doubts about that. I would be surprised if they don't accept some if not all your transfer credits...lucky you. They are very generous when transferring credits into the RN-BSN program. Good luck! Do you work FT?

I am officially PRN staff but work full time hours and am attempting to work full time hours as long as I can to help finance my schooling. I plan on cutting back if/when I feel like I need more study time. It sounds like that may come quickly!

Well, if you have the option to cut back then you'll be fine. Perhaps your transferred courses will decrease your school load. I hope so!

I was NOT accepted for OU's FNP program. That's fine as I decided I'm not interested in attending. I don't know why they didn't accept me. It's weird how the process works. They admit as they receive applications so it's basically first come first served. I've left msgs to find out why I wasn't accepted but no reply which is really lame. Anyhow, not doing FNP so it makes no difference in the long run. But with a strong application I'm curious as to why I was not accepted.

I don't understand this at all! But - you will end up in a program that you were meant to attend!

@mtsteelhorse, What state are your from, that could have something to do with it. I just had to drop out of the program after almost a year (started Jan 12) in b/c some of us not from the state of Ohio, KY and one other states where in limbo b/c we might not be able to perform clinicals in our state. Heartbroken, time and I'm sure wasted money, but I have to move on.

@RNnan I was told students who were already admitted did not have to worry about the out-of-state clinical issues-it was only a problem for future students. Did you talk to them about that before dropping out?

OU sucks...I can't wait to be done with them forever. As for grad schools, there are much better ones out there. Their program is so new I doubt they've worked out the kinks. The BSN program sure has a LOT of kinks in it...Glad to move on. Good luck to you. Every time I talked with them I got a different answer. The admissions advisor for the FNP program tore me a new one recently...very rude.
