Hello! Has anyone out there applied to the Entry Master's Program at Ohio State for the Summer 2016 start?
Hey everyone! I've been scouring the these forums like crazy as I start all of my grad-entry applications for the 2017 starts! OSU is definitely somewhere I want to be as I'm currently an undergrad here and love the city and the ability to be closer to family than out-of-state would take me. Not to mention the amazing hospital network for clinicals! If you don't mind me asking, what were your statistics for those admitted? My GPA isn't admittedly as strong as I'd like it to be so I'm a little worried! Thanks!!
I would love to hear the stats for anyone accepted into the FNP program!! I am very interested in applying to start in 2017, but I also know FNP is one of the most competitive specialties!! My cumulative GPA is about a 3.6 and my prereq GPA is a 4.0, but I still need to complete pharmacology. I know OSU prefers all prereqs to be complete beforehand, so that makes me a little more nervous! I've already been accepted to an ABSN program in Pennsylvania, so that helps me feel a little better at least, but it would be my top choice to get into OSU!!
Hi guys! I thought I would chime in here since I found this message board so helping and orienting when I was going through this process last year. I am in my second semester and am in the PMHNP track. I had all of my pre-reqs done except for Pharmacology by the application deadline. I would say, if you have a well-rounded application and are still working on some required classes, just go for it. The worst case scenario is you do not get in and have to apply again next year once you've completed all of your pre-reqs. This happened to some really outstanding students in the program, and they used the year to boost their knowledge base and even work as a PCA/STNA/CNA and get some more experience.
The admissions staff at the College of Nursing is truly outstanding. If you have any questions, just call them! They are incredibly honest, empathetic, and helpful, and will try to answer your questions as best as they possibly can. I definitely phoned them up a few times during the application process and it was a very positive experience. They understand how anxiety-producing the application process is and really do try to help you.
armymusic2013, your application stats sound excellent. Congratulations on getting accepted to the ABSN program in PA...though OF COURSE I hope you get accepted to OSU too! I know the wait is painful, but hang in there.
Good luck to everyone applying! You can do it. :)
Thank you so much, astriker!! That makes me feel a little bit better!! I think I am a pretty well-rounded candidate! I am also certified as a PCT and will soon be starting jobs at two hospitals, one as a PCA and another similar type job at the other.
Do you happen to know what the stats were like for people accepted into the FNP program? How do you like the program so far? What is the daily/weekly schedule like? Thanks!!!
Hi guys! I was accepted into the FNP grad entry cohort and I started in summer 2016. I applied twice to the program, the first time I was placed on a wait list. It's fairly common for applicants to the FNP cohort to reapply. I know that about 1/3 of us in my speciality cohort of ~12 have applied more than once.
I know what kept me from being admitted the first time - my undergrad GPA was less than stellar, basically right at a 3.0. I do have a previous Master's in a healthcare area but have a 4.0GPA from that degree and also had a 4.0 in the pre-reqs. They are very serious in that this is a competitive program(especially the FNP cohort), however they are very willing to work with you to help you improve your application. I took additional Nursing courses both at the BSN and Master's level (you can actually take Master's level courses at OSU CON if you ask the professor of the course if it's okay and they sign you in). I did this as well as started volunteering at a free clinic in my spare time, as I was still working full time in my previous career. I would echo Astriker in that if you do have questions, ask the faculty! They were very helpful during the application process. Additionally, if you have more Qs shoot me a private message.
Hi, toothless!! I applied for the FNP program for summer 2017, and I was wondering if you could tell me how you like the program so far!! What is the schedule like? How do you like your classes so far? Are you happy with your decision? Also, do you happen to know the average GPA and stats for everyone who was accepted into the FNP program? OSU is my top choice, but I have NO idea how I stack up against the rest of the competition!!
Armymusic - The program is really great. They do mean it when it's intense. I have a different Master's degree and this program is above and beyond what I have taken, even in the pre-reqs for this program. The semester we're in right now is the most difficult semester I've ever been in in my entire collegiate career. That being said, it's doable, if you put the time and effort in - I am doing really well in my courses. The thing to keep in mind is that you will need to sacrifice for this program because of the time required to do well.
I only applied to this program because I did not want to move/couldn't move. I am happy with going to OSU. It does have it's issues but I have the mindset of this program isn't my end goal so I don't expect it to be "perfect". I would keep in mind that with scheduling, OSU has the mindset that their schedule "comes first", so if you do plan on working, know that you will have to work around your school schedule, not the other way around.
I have no idea about GPA or stats. You would need to contact OSU about that. It's not something we really ever talked about

I will be applying for the pediatric program. My undergrad GPA cum is 3.35 and my graduate cum is 3.75. My physiology and microbio credits did not transfer so I will be retaking them at CSCC. I have a BS neuroscience and have received undergraduate grants for research and currently work as a research assistant at NCH. I also have work experience in child care settings for both special education and typically developing peers.
