Ohio State Master's Entry Summer 2016
Armymusic - The program is really great. They do mean it when it's intense. I have a different Master's degree and this program is above and beyond what I have taken, even in the pre-reqs for this program. The semester we're in right now is the most difficult semester I've ever been in in my entire collegiate career. That being said, it's doable, if you put the time and effort in - I am doing really well in my courses. The thing to keep in mind is that you will need to sacrifice for this program because of the time required to do well. I only applied to this program because I did not want to move/couldn't move. I am happy with going to OSU. It does have it's issues but I have the mindset of this program isn't my end goal so I don't expect it to be "perfect". I would keep in mind that with scheduling, OSU has the mindset that their schedule "comes first", so if you do plan on working, know that you will have to work around your school schedule, not the other way around. I have no idea about GPA or stats. You would need to contact OSU about that. It's not something we really ever talked about

Ohio State Master's Entry Summer 2016
Hi guys! I was accepted into the FNP grad entry cohort and I started in summer 2016. I applied twice to the program, the first time I was placed on a wait list. It's fairly common for applicants to the FNP cohort to reapply. I know that about 1/3 of us in my speciality cohort of ~12 have applied more than once. I know what kept me from being admitted the first time - my undergrad GPA was less than stellar, basically right at a 3.0. I do have a previous Master's in a healthcare area but have a 4.0GPA from that degree and also had a 4.0 in the pre-reqs. They are very serious in that this is a competitive program(especially the FNP cohort), however they are very willing to work with you to help you improve your application. I took additional Nursing courses both at the BSN and Master's level (you can actually take Master's level courses at OSU CON if you ask the professor of the course if it's okay and they sign you in). I did this as well as started volunteering at a free clinic in my spare time, as I was still working full time in my previous career. I would echo Astriker in that if you do have questions, ask the faculty! They were very helpful during the application process. Additionally, if you have more Qs shoot me a private message.

They do very much prefer for you to have them done. They weight you on a point system so not having them done will give you a lower score. What specialties are you going to be applying to? Also if you don't mind me asking what's your background and GPA and what pre-reqs do you have left?

@Ricklesworth lol. For sure let us know. I'm rooting for you (cause I know you want to get in, but also cause your sense of humor is hilarious. You need some sarcastic remarks being thrown around when you're wrist deep in c-diff surprise) @astriker Congrats on the admittance to Columbia! I hope you get accepted to OSU too. It would be cool to have a bunch of us finally meet up in person. The wait really is the hardest part, it's frustrating, challenging and tears at your mental well being. I hope that you find out soon or at least can get an update. I know that in past years some people have been notified as late as the day before the deadline to be notified and these were individuals who were accepted. So I wouldn't take the radio silence as a negative.

If you want to call them, I think it's appropriate if you phrase it like "I wanted to check in and see if there were any updates you could give me". The admissions staff has all been very kind and understanding of the anxiety that comes up in this process - at least that's been my experience.

@pray247 You're making me blush But seriously, don't give up hope yet. I know that last year and in the years previous, admissions decisions have gone out as late as the deadline date. You still could be accepted. If not, try again. It's what I did - and now I'm in. Also the Capital accelerated BSN is a good option if your from around Columbus. I know someone in that program right now and she reallllly likes it. It'll take you a little bit longer, but you could work while you get your Masters which will save you $$$.

32-36 hours seems crazy to me. Though I've known a couple of people who have worked those hours as an RN for the last part of the program. I bet it just does depend on the person. If you look at the curriculum, it seems like many of the most difficult courses are front loaded, so it might be possible to work those hours during the last year.
