  1. Armymusic - The program is really great. They do mean it when it's intense. I have a different Master's degree and this program is above and beyond what I have taken, even in the pre-reqs for this program. The semester we're in right now is the most difficult semester I've ever been in in my entire collegiate career. That being said, it's doable, if you put the time and effort in - I am doing really well in my courses. The thing to keep in mind is that you will need to sacrifice for this program because of the time required to do well. I only applied to this program because I did not want to move/couldn't move. I am happy with going to OSU. It does have it's issues but I have the mindset of this program isn't my end goal so I don't expect it to be "perfect". I would keep in mind that with scheduling, OSU has the mindset that their schedule "comes first", so if you do plan on working, know that you will have to work around your school schedule, not the other way around. I have no idea about GPA or stats. You would need to contact OSU about that. It's not something we really ever talked about
  2. Hi guys! I was accepted into the FNP grad entry cohort and I started in summer 2016. I applied twice to the program, the first time I was placed on a wait list. It's fairly common for applicants to the FNP cohort to reapply. I know that about 1/3 of us in my speciality cohort of ~12 have applied more than once. I know what kept me from being admitted the first time - my undergrad GPA was less than stellar, basically right at a 3.0. I do have a previous Master's in a healthcare area but have a 4.0GPA from that degree and also had a 4.0 in the pre-reqs. They are very serious in that this is a competitive program(especially the FNP cohort), however they are very willing to work with you to help you improve your application. I took additional Nursing courses both at the BSN and Master's level (you can actually take Master's level courses at OSU CON if you ask the professor of the course if it's okay and they sign you in). I did this as well as started volunteering at a free clinic in my spare time, as I was still working full time in my previous career. I would echo Astriker in that if you do have questions, ask the faculty! They were very helpful during the application process. Additionally, if you have more Qs shoot me a private message.
  3. They do very much prefer for you to have them done. They weight you on a point system so not having them done will give you a lower score. What specialties are you going to be applying to? Also if you don't mind me asking what's your background and GPA and what pre-reqs do you have left?
  4. @hungry student Seriously. I'm so excited and nervous to meet you guys in person. To those of us who got in after being denied last year.... SUPER CONGRATS. We worked hard towards our dreams even though our first answer was no.
  5. Holy crap. I miss one night in this forum and errybody be getting into grad school and stuff. CONGRATS RICKLESWORTH AND PRAY 247!!!!! So excited for you both. And yes, please join us in the Facebook group :) @hungrystudent - I'm also almost a full 10 years older than a lot of the people here. We're in the same boat.
  6. @Ricklesworth lol. For sure let us know. I'm rooting for you (cause I know you want to get in, but also cause your sense of humor is hilarious. You need some sarcastic remarks being thrown around when you're wrist deep in c-diff surprise) @astriker Congrats on the admittance to Columbia! I hope you get accepted to OSU too. It would be cool to have a bunch of us finally meet up in person. The wait really is the hardest part, it's frustrating, challenging and tears at your mental well being. I hope that you find out soon or at least can get an update. I know that in past years some people have been notified as late as the day before the deadline to be notified and these were individuals who were accepted. So I wouldn't take the radio silence as a negative.
  7. If you want to call them, I think it's appropriate if you phrase it like "I wanted to check in and see if there were any updates you could give me". The admissions staff has all been very kind and understanding of the anxiety that comes up in this process - at least that's been my experience.
  8. @pray247 You're making me blush But seriously, don't give up hope yet. I know that last year and in the years previous, admissions decisions have gone out as late as the deadline date. You still could be accepted. If not, try again. It's what I did - and now I'm in. Also the Capital accelerated BSN is a good option if your from around Columbus. I know someone in that program right now and she reallllly likes it. It'll take you a little bit longer, but you could work while you get your Masters which will save you $$$.
  9. @pray247 They do have a waitlist in place. I was on it last year. Message me if you have any questions about it.
  10. I received my official email on Monday. Has anyone else heard anything?? It seems like a lot of decisions are being made right before the weekend. I wonder if we'll have another round of acceptances this Friday/Saturday/Sunday
  11. This seriously is the best thread ever. So many people are getting accepted. I'm so excited meet everyone!
  12. me too!! I am beyond happy for everyone.
  13. Oh my gosh guys. I got in too. Congrats everyone!!!!
  14. LOL!!! Yes please :)
  15. 32-36 hours seems crazy to me. Though I've known a couple of people who have worked those hours as an RN for the last part of the program. I bet it just does depend on the person. If you look at the curriculum, it seems like many of the most difficult courses are front loaded, so it might be possible to work those hours during the last year.
  16. I talked to an old acquaintance of mine from undergrad who is graduating this year from the program. She has worked ~20hours a week at the hospital during the entire program both before and after getting her RN. It seems like other people I've talked to work, just not full time. Is anyone else planning on working? I know I am, but probably not very much.
  17. It's kinda awesome many of us have some experience under our belt. It really goes to show how important this is if many of us are leaving careers to pursue this program. @Ricklesworth your underwear comment was hilarious.... I was trying to sneakily laugh about this at work but failed. @Hungrystudent.... I think we're about the same age! I also had the experience of not being able to "shake" nursing. Guess that's why a lot of us are here. @flexis I don't think any of us have an idea if they send things out alphabetically. Their ways are mystical and unknown
  18. Last year I waited until February 1st for the initial decisions. Then I waited until April 1 for the waitlist decision.
  19. yay @hungrystudent !!!! I was worried when you went AWOL. Thanks @pray247 that helps my anxiety. Still it's so frustrating waiting. Especially when I originally thought I'd know at the end of January.
  20. Last year when I was not accepted it said "decision"
  21. FNP primary, psych secondary I bet certain areas have less applications than other, which would make the process faster. Even though I didn't apply to either of the areas that people are getting answers in, I'm still anxious.
  22. Kdaniel what specialty did you apply to?
  23. It sounds like people from women's health and psych are getting their acceptances. Anyone else who applied in any other area get a decision?
  24. I think she/he was applying for Psych. Has anyone applying to FNP heard anything?? Mine's still pending
  25. I took the course last year. It was a challenging course, but over all very interesting. I'm actually thinking about auditing it just to stay fresh on my pharm. I know pharm isn't a required pre-req for other nursing programs, but I bet the credit will transfer elsewhere if you do take it at OSU. Message me if you have any questions about the course.
