OHIO Nurses what part of Ohio are you from and what kind of nurse are you/will you be

Hi everyone, just trying to get some posts goin on in our OHio chat room, im from cincy and i want to be a travel nurse eventually...i also want to specialize in pediatrics maybe become an NP sometime in the future....

I'd know the names of the little towns in Lawrence county...I'm in Ironton.

I am in West Chester Ohio, which is about 35 minutes from the Cincy area and 20 minutes from Dayton. I am going into the LPN program at Brown Mackie College

I was born and raised in Kent, and then went to Ohio University in Athens for undergrad. I moved to Columbus after that, and have been here for 8 years now. I will be starting the online ADN program at Columbus State in September. I am SO excited!!!! Right now, I have my heart set on being a NICU nurse, but I'm going to keep an open mind throughout nursing school. :nurse: :yeah:

I went to OSU for undergrad:) how do you like columbus? I grad 2004, lived there from 2000-04.

I'm actually an LVN transplant from Los Angeles, living in Columbus. We moved here to help with a family emergency last year.

I just started a new job last week in pain mgmt and I'm loving it! What a great field :D

In LA, I worked in bariatrics, dual diagnosis psych, cosmetic laser treatments and an ADHC.

Hello everyone...

I am raised in Cleveland, Ohio all my life. I have been a nurse for 3 1/2 years and I did one year of step-down unit and then have been doing critical care ever since. I am actually interviewing this week for a night position in a NICU. I think it is time for a change and I have been watching for a night position in a certain local NICU since I graduated and it finally has become available so I am hoping that I get the position..

I'm from southern Ohio. I'm an lpn charge nurse in long term care. The plan is to get my rn and teach when getting up at 4am becomes too old.

I was "borned" and raised in Lawrence Co. Lived in the area all my life until 2.5 years ago. You would know where Chesapeake is then....LOL. I worked at River Valley Health System for 14 years until they closed in 2001. :angryfire Which LTC do you work at?

Hi ! I'm from central ohio been an LPN for approximately 16 years and have worked mainly with the geriatric population in LTC facilities. Currently burnt out and attending school to obtain my RN degree to change directions within the field of nursing. Extremely interested in finding a way to finish my degree in a shorter period of time than the route I'm currently taking. It appears with many colleges they require the LPN to test out of several courses and take additional electives then do a transition before you can even attempt second year which is nine months. Why is it so difficult and does any one know of an easier route to obtain their RN degree? :monkeydance:

I just graduated from an LPN program last week and haven't even taken my NCLEX yet. However, I am bridging at Sinclair in Dayton and have already started working on getting to ball rolling so to speak. They are not requiring me to test out of anything . I do have to take their math placement test since it's been so many years since I've taken it. I guess I have to prove I can still do it. As I have a degree already, I don't have to take the Englishes, Humanities, Communications, etc. classes that normally go along with a degree program. I do have to retake Psychology because my credit is 21 years old though.

At Sinclair, the following are waived: PAX RN exam, Chemistry, ALH 103 & 120, BIO 141, 142 & 143 and you get advanced placement credit for NSG 120, 121, 122 & 123 (you can go to www.sinclair.edu to look these up if you wish).

I believe that the LPN to RN role transition courses are required by all schools....my guess would be that it's an OH Board of Nursing requirement.

I know what you mean. I currently live in southern ohio and schools are scarce in the area. The one that is close to me requires you to practically go through the whole RN program to get your ADN. I have looked into Excelsior college online but am hesitant because I'm not even IV certified because finding a course is hard. I would love to work in hospital but no one will hire someone who just has LPN without IV.
