Don't feel silly,if you don't know the answer you should always ask. I am not a nurse yet,I'm not even a student, but my bf's mom is an LPN in an LTC facility and she wears what I like to call 'fun scrubs'-a shirt with prints on it and a coordinating pant. She has flowers, stars, all kind of things. Yesterday she wore a white shirt with frog princesses on it and purple pants. I guess it all depends on the person and the place where they work. In my experience the only ones who wear lab coats are NPs
i like lab coats because they are easy to put on depending on the temp
the hospital where my dd works has a different color for each floor
some facilities have a different color for the job you have, ward clerk, cna
nurse, respiratory etc
some don't have a requirement but they usually want a uniform/scrubs
At the facility where I work, all Licensed Nurses has to wear ONLY plain colored scrubs. To differ from the aides and other non-licensed personnel. I love the "dickies" and "urbane" scrubs. They're my fav. They have many cute plain colored dickies scrubs in different fun styles. My fav. are the pin-striped scrubs. Very nursey nursey pimperish hahahaha.
I work at a nursing home and wear regular scrubs. Sometimes the tops are printed with crazy designs such as teddy bears, animals, flowers, sea shells, hearts, and other stuff. Sometimes I wear plain, solid-colored scrub tops. All of my scrub bottoms are solid-colors such as black, maroon, light blue, royal blue, khaki, and olive green.
I WISH that I can wear the wonderful designs that are fashionable, but my hospital recently went traditional and stated that nurses may wear pastel colored tops and must wear white pants. The CNAs, on the other hand, get to wear all of the things that I used to love. It really depends on where you are employeed. There are some places that are so strict that you have to have uniform pants and nursing shoes; IOW, no white jeans and sweats, no sneakers (even nursing sneakers) and no clogs.

Just to let you know, I am 100% envious of you! I have to wear a pastel colored shirt/lab coat and white pants...no prints of any kind. I really miss my khaki. I can wear a khaki top and jacket, but no khaki pants. Almost makes me want to quit...:trout:
