OH NO! I can't believe this is happening!!

I have been planning to go to nursing school for 3 years, have ALL non nursing courses completed and turned in my application to my 1st choice last week. All of my transcripts but 1 have been received by the school and I called to check status today since this Friday 9/1 is the application deadline. I am told "we don't have your highschool transcripts yet" and I reply that she should receive it anyday now. she says, well how about x school, y school and z school? (I went to 4 high schools -Navy brat)

I told her that I was told I only needed to send the one I graduated from and she says NO we need them ALL. I am so frustrated b/c unless I drive to Indiana and South Carolina this week to get them by hand there is NO WAY they are going to be on time! And to top it off, one of the schools is closed and no longer exists and she said they need an official letter to prove it...how and I supposed to get that from a school that doesn't exist??!

For one, I don't understand why they cannot just accept the transfer credits on my transcript from the last school I attended. She says they need to verify I have biology, chemistry and algebra in high school yet I specifically told her I have earned COLLEGE CREDIT for Biology, A&P 1+2, Microbiology, Chem 1+2 and Pre-Calculus, Trig, Calculus 1 + 2, all with grades of B+ and A!!!!!!!!!!!! All of which is verified on my college transcripts!!! ACCKKKKKKKKKKK

I just don't understand this!!:(

I am going to call back tomorrow and figure out if driving a total of 30 hours in the next 48hours is worth it. Thanks for letting me vent.

Not to put a further crimp in things, but are you sure your hand delivered copies will be acceptable? My cc allows unofficial copies for advisement purposes, but when it comes time for me to apply for the program only official transcripts shipped from college/high school DIRECTLY to the cc will do.

Yes, they told me that hand delivered official copy with seal across the envelope will do. :)

This is ridiculous. I had a similar situation happen to me. I tried to transfer my undergraduate courses and I kept running into problems.

I was told that my name is different then it was back when I first attended college despite the fact that I noted this on my request. Also, my CC had a problem with verifying my information because the very reputable Name school I graduated from no longer uses SSN# on transcripts.

Of course I am telling you this in a few sentences, but it took an entire summer and the Fall semester to get the ball rolling. I was told many things by many different people. I made a bunch of phone calls and talked to several counselors. Oh, and did I mention that they lost my transcripts the first time? Anyway, I finally got the situation resolved, but I would have been very angry if this had happened during the application process because it would have effected my ability to apply to the nursing program.

Speaking of the application process, I am currently in the middle of a cycle right now. I have one class I took this summerat another CC and I need to transfer it to my CC within the next 4 weeks or I will not receive credit. I already submitted my request and paid for the transcripts (I am not allowed to hand deliver). I am giving this process 1 week though the college asks for 3 because I do not trust the process!

As others have said, the people working in the admin office are drones! They also can care less about your situation and so if things do not add up to them, many of them do not even bother to contact you to tell you anything is wrong. That is what happened to me last year. I only found out my grades did not transfer because I checked my unofficial transcripts daily. Good luck to you, I understand your anxiety and feel your pain! :wink2:

Sounds like the headaches are only beginning. I hope it isnt this difficult everywhere. Why would they make things so hard???? Is there some hidden reason for all of that?

Why in the world do they care about HS classes if you have college classes? Man, that makes no sense. I am so sorry and hope it all works out! I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

UPDATE!!

I have contacted all 3 school and spoke directly to 2 of them (voicemail on the 3rd) and the transcripts are being FAXED TODAY with paper copies in the mail to follow. YIPPEE! 2 down and 1 to go!! I am calling 2 times an hour until I reach someone in person at the last school to beg and plead for the faxed copy to be sent. If I can get this accomplished, I am all set, Praise the Lord!! :)

I am walking my most recent official college transcript over today to meet the advisor in person and to straighten out the whole situation of the school that closed. Hopefully I won't require documentation of that since the school technically merged with another school and the credits are on that transcript.

thanks everyone for your thoughts and support. :)

I'm glad things are starting to look better for you, mixy. I was sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately, it seem like many nursing schools are causing problems by requiring high school transcripts and diplomas when students have taken college courses in the subjects they are looking for. Like you, the high school I went to for 9th and 10th grade is closed and doesn't exist anymore, but thankfully the grades from there were transferred to the high school that I graduated from. However, I don't understand how colleges can still require proof of a high school diploma when someone has A COLLEGE DEGREE! . To ask someone with a master's degree (re: romie) for proof of a GED is insane! If, like you, someone has taken classes such as biology, trig, and microbiology in college, then I don't see why any nursing school would need evidence that you took high school biology and algebra. Anyway, good luck to you. :)

ANOTHER UPDATE:

Just returned from the school and delivered my transcripts. I dressed very professional, as if I were on an interview. Both of my other high schools faxed my transcripts as promised and the admissions lady said to do the best I can to get the other transcript in by Friday but she said if not, she will still forward my application to be considered for Spring enrollment YAAAY! I am very happy indeed and this is a huge stress relief for me! It turns out, she is on the board that determines who gets selected for interview SO it is a really great thing that I didn't do anything to upset her and lessen my chances of getting in.

That's great news, so glad you were able to track eveyrthing down. Being that aggressive certainly shows how much you want this, too. :)

Congratulations....I'm glad it all worked out.

It does seem crazy the way they require all of these transcripts...I attended a vocational school in CA (court reporting) that has no transferrable credits, yet they have required them for my previous BS and also for my application to NS. Two of the schools have closed down and I had to prove that one was no longer in existence period, and had to track down another college that is holding transcripts from the second. It's ridiculous....I could almost understand if I was applying for financial aid, but I am not...so it seems totally irrelevant to me....and costly and time-consuming!!

Best wishes in the process!

Somewhat off topic but I have a friend who is a retired teacher with a Master's degree in Education. After retirement she moved too far from where she taught and couldn't get her insurance coverage. She got a job as a teacher assistant (didn't want the teacher responsibility) so she could get health care coverage. Our school demanded a copy of her high school diploma even though she had her framed B.S. and M.Ed. It had been damaged in a flood....

That is awsome!!! I am happy for you.

Congrats! Unfortunately you had to go through a lot of trouble, but I am very happy it is working out for you. I am going to my campus on Monday to get into people's faces to make sure my transcripts from one of my summer courses was received and that the transfer is being processed. It is the only way it will happen in a timely manner.
