I have been planning to go to nursing school for 3 years, have ALL non nursing courses completed and turned in my application to my 1st choice last week. All of my transcripts but 1 have been received by the school and I called to check status today since this Friday 9/1 is the application deadline. I am told "we don't have your highschool transcripts yet" and I reply that she should receive it anyday now. she says, well how about x school, y school and z school? (I went to 4 high schools -Navy brat)
I told her that I was told I only needed to send the one I graduated from and she says NO we need them ALL. I am so frustrated b/c unless I drive to Indiana and South Carolina this week to get them by hand there is NO WAY they are going to be on time! And to top it off, one of the schools is closed and no longer exists and she said they need an official letter to prove it...how and I supposed to get that from a school that doesn't exist??!
For one, I don't understand why they cannot just accept the transfer credits on my transcript from the last school I attended. She says they need to verify I have biology, chemistry and algebra in high school yet I specifically told her I have earned COLLEGE CREDIT for Biology, A&P 1+2, Microbiology, Chem 1+2 and Pre-Calculus, Trig, Calculus 1 + 2, all with grades of B+ and A!!!!!!!!!!!! All of which is verified on my college transcripts!!! ACCKKKKKKKKKKK
I just don't understand this!!
I am going to call back tomorrow and figure out if driving a total of 30 hours in the next 48hours is worth it. Thanks for letting me vent.

I am so tired of these schools, they always give you the run around all they care about is their money, not you. It really aggervates me at times.

It is too bad that the admissions office is being such sticklers and not understanding. I can sympathize because the first time I applied for nursing school, I had to send my GED results! Keep in mind that I already have a masters degree and was applying for an associates degree program, but no, they wanted to see my GED. Remember that the people who work in the admissions office are drones who are more concerned about ensuring piece of paper X fits into file x and that piece of paper y fits into file y and have little capacity to understand beyond that. If all else fails and you are unable to aquire the necessary paperwork, you should send them a detailed letter explaining your situation. I included an addendum to my application that explained my educational situation. It bypasses the admission drones and is reviewed by the actual people who accept students. Good luck!

Wow. I am so sorry that this is happening. I think I had better make sure I have several copies of my transcripts before hand. I hope things work out for you.

mixy,
I'm so sorry this is happening to you. This is such an unusual circumstance. Usually, if someone has at least 15 college credits then they don't care about what you did in high school. It's ridiculous. Again, so sorry for you.

Is there a way you can speak to the Dean? That seems pretty ridiculous to me and it's worth a shot.

Im sorry this is happening to you. I've never had a problem like this...never needed my HS transcripts for anything since readmitting to college.
why don't you just have those schools FAX your transcripts? you dont need to drive there, silly! :)
As for the closed school, call the town or city hall in that area and ask from there about the documents you need to prove the school is shut down, they can fax that, too!
Good luck!

Yes I'd talk to the dean... I would explain how sorry you would be to have to goto school xyz (fill in the blank with any other school in your area).
Let the dean know in a subtle way you will take your money elsewhere....
Thanks for your support everyone! There are some great ideas here..
-thought of the fax idea and tried to contact all the schools earlier today (except the one that closed.)
school x- left a message on voicemail/will follow up first thing tomorrow
school y-sweet lady is supposed to call me back tomorrow after she locates my transcripts from 1988 (if she can find them)
school z-transcripts are too old for school to have so was transferred to school district voicemail that instructed ONLY a signed request sent snail mail will do, so sent overnight for $15 and will follow up tomorrow to BEG for the fax copy
I am going tomorrow to hand deliver the latest copy of my official college transcript showing college credit for all forementioned coursework and politely ask that my application be considered "complete" and eligible for consideration due to unusual circumstances. Keeping fingers crossed and many prayers!!
I agree, it's ridiculous to ask a master's degree graduate for her GED :icon_roll
I also have a AA degree in General Studies (was going for BS in Math) but I guess proof of the high school diploma is somehow necessary. Oh and let's not forget those ever-so-important biology, chem and algebra classes I took in 1988!! Who cares that I earned college credit for those courses between 1998-2000!

Don't you hate it when they tell you something and later tell you something totally different. I don't know how many times this happened to me. I would definetly talk to the dean or possibly the director of the nursing program. The director is more likely be able to allow you to summit the transcripts after you receive them in the mail. Hope it all works out for you.

Not to put a further crimp in things, but are you sure your hand delivered copies will be acceptable? My cc allows unofficial copies for advisement purposes, but when it comes time for me to apply for the program only official transcripts shipped from college/high school DIRECTLY to the cc will do.
