OCC - 2010 applicants / 2011 ADN prospective students

Published

Hey everyone! Im back for my second application into the ADN program at OCC ::sigh:: As I did in the thread I created last year, I am creating a new one for all those applying to the nursing progam for next fall. Lets keep in touch and keep one another updated. Good luck guys!!! :)

This year's online pharmacology sections are being offered during Summer I, a 7-1/2 week session. I love the convenience of online classes. The time saved driving, parking, etc. allows for extra study time and a smaller dent in the wallet, considering today's gas prices.

Congrats!!!:yeah:

Thanks, IfYouSeekAmy!

I got put on the waitlist at the other college.

I will have to retake Sociology and American Government to even be considered for this school which will make my gpa a 3.7. Is this good enough?

does anyone know when the next deadline for getting accepted into OCC is

Youll have to wait to get everything done by december 15..i suggest retaking as much classes as you can to make your gpa high..each year its gets higher and if you want a chance than i suggest doing that..it sucks how the gpa jumped so much this year!

No letter yet!!!!

the next deadline is december 15? what else do I need to do? is the math test they make you take hard?

Addison you'll need at least a 3.9 if you want to make OCC's next program and I would aim even higher than that. The math test is basic arithmetic and you can take it three times to get at least a 90% pass, and can take the practice test as many times as you want which I highly recommend because even though the math is basic, no calculators allowed and little mistakes can cause a fail the first time - it happened to me and many others. Mind you, "fail" for me was 84%.

I used the workbook under Southfield's ASC site, and they give you many examples to practice what it's like on the real test. You can take the test at either Highland Lakes or Southfield Campus, and they list their times under each ASC portion of the main site.

You also need to make sure you have a math, chemistry, and biology (all of which could have been completed in high school or college) requirements filled. I mean the basic classes, and these are not pre-reqs, but they do need a C or better. If you have them done from another school or high school, just send the transcripts. You will definitely need your high school transcript, no matter what, as part of the checklist with a counselor.

Speaking of which - that's one of the steps. You have to sit with a counselor before you apply and make sure you have all 11 pre-reqs complete (and/or are currently finishing the last ones up during fall semester like so many, many do), the MPT, and your high school records, then they send you upstairs to the Nursing department. Then you wait for the letter for months on end, lol

Like ifyouseekamy said it is basic and no calculaters allowed. I reviewed the big study packet they offer online and passed the first time i took it..im horrible in math so as long as you study that packet than you should be fine

Information sessions: I forgot to mention these. You have to sit through one before you apply. Two hours long, pretty tedious, as many people waste your time and ask dumb questions, but you have to suck it up, lol

Oh god..this is making me cry literally...

That means I will have to retake Microbiology...I got a "B" in it, and its bringing my gpa down

Can someone inform me on Physical Education? Is this a gym class or just lecture?

Specializes in Neuroscience.

For phys ed, you can take a simple 1 credit step aerobics class like I did, or a weight training class, or dance, bowling etc. no lecture required.

You can take the Micro without a lab if you want, but it won't transer to a BSN. If you can re-take it as a Micro with a lab as a 4 credit class and get an A, your gpa will be weighted even higher.

Hi Addison! I am also applying to OCC next cycle, but the catch is that I already applied this cycle. I haven't gotten my letter yet, but I know I haven't gotten in. My gpa in the required prereq courses this time around was a 3.824 which wasn't high enough.

Seriousely, aim for a 4.0. This past year the gpa cutof was a 3.880, jumping from last cycle's 3.774. Aim for a 4.0. You can retake the classes as many times as you want, they don't care. Aim for a 4.0.

Did I mention...to aim for a 4.0? lol.
