Obsessed with nursing? is that possible?

Published

]So, I posted a thread this morning about abbreviations. I got to thinking, people on here must think I am stupid. I am, when it comes to nursing. I have my current CNA license in NC. But I challenged the test and passed it, no big deal.

BUT, now I am interested in nursing. I know NOTHING about. I know NPO means "nothing by mouth" and PRN is "AS NEEDED". I feel so ]stupid! First off, I have no support from my family in my career choice. My father looks at is a "dirty" career because you deal with lots of diseases and germs. He NEVER goes to the doctor. He thinks that it's great that I want to do something but he keeps trying to convince me to change majors, I REFUSE!!!!! My mother thinks I need to skip school all together and go right into the work force, like walmart. NOTHING wrong with walmart, but I want to be a dag-blame NURSE! I am meant to be a nurse, I get this feeling when i'm in the hospitals that I get NO where else. I love it. I love being there. I love getting I'Vs. I love seeing the nurses and their scrubs, everything about it! CHESSY as it sounds, I am meant to be in a hospital!

ANYWAYS, I am sooo excited. I've been looking online at the local colleges for nursing we have around here, we are LUCKY! We have 6 in the city of Charlotte, NC and one of those in GASTONIA! I chose "Mercy school of nursing" http://www.cmc-mercy.org/body.cfm?id=108

]They seem like such a great school. I have seen their nursing students walking around the hospital before, I get so jealous. I am obsessed with nursing. I read EVERYTHING online. I am learning so much from this website, I love :redpinkheallnurses.com:redpinkhe

]About prerequisits, they require you have BIO 168, 169 AND 275. English composition. That's all. :heartbeat

_____

The local community college requires BIO168, CIS110, ENG111, BIO169, ART111, MATH161, PSY150, BIO275, COM231, ENG112:banghead:

]I plan to take BIO 168 AND ENGLISH THIS SPRING 10'

I plan to take BIO 169 AND BIO 275 THIS SUMMER 10'

I plan to apply to nursing school FALL OF 2009 FOR FALL OF 2010!

Yep, I said it, I am offically going to apply TO NURSING SCHOOL because they said I could apply as long as I have those classes done by the first day of nursing school!

Is ANYONE as obsessed with nursing as me?!

i love your enthusiasm! Its so refreshing. Well, I never thought of myself as obsessed with nursing but I do think about it all the freaking time! When I see someone in scrubs I always think they are a nurse even though they could be something else. I am always jealous of them, wishing i had a reason to wear scrubs. Whats even sadder is I always want to wear scrubs for halloween, but never do. Anyway, I do think about nursing a lot, and I have even started studying for nursing school. I am not enrolled yet. I am reviewing patho and bio and answering nclex type questions in this big fat review book I have. I cannot wait to start school and have my little roller backpack with one thousand dollars worth of books. I am really worried I will flunk right out, but geez I have the passion to start working in a hospital and helping others. I love learning about the human body and well i just hope to succeed.

I have to add I really want to be a nurse so I can help patients feel better, not just physically but mentally. When I was in the hospital after having my daughter my RN treated me so rudely, it really was insulting. I want to bring some humanity back to this profession and connect with my patients. I know this cannot happen with everyone. Hospitals are so impersonal and they can be very lonely and sad. So many medical professionals look at a patient as just another chart, and it shouldn't be that way. Its quite ironic...medicine should help a person but the profession can be dehumanizing

I too have been studying random things I can find to :-)

there is a prenursing blog on this web site also

I would buy a review book of nursing

i remember the good old Mosby RN test Review

I uses it as my outline of Nursing Studies it was very helpful that why.

There are alot more out there now of course. The beginning was about WHO and History of Nursing, ANA Etc...

I would study medical abbreviations that would be a quick and easy for you to do. If you go to a local Library or bookstore you can see all the references in the nursing section or any Junior college library is a interesting way to spend a day. You will be spending many hours in library in the near future.(LOL)

There are hundreds of reviews, See istudysmart web page or RUE

I would not spend thousands of dollors on book right away

or do these online programs yet since You are going to a Nursing School.

See How many of your courses are college credit and what accreditation is the Nursing program with. These are very important if you are to continue your education so you do not have to back track later on with repeating courses

for a BSN. Most Of the nurse I work with that are 30 years and younger take it

for granted they have to go back for the BSN Degree to get ahead in Nursing and are doing so even if it is one course of prereqs. at a time.

You are on the right path for you. One the greatest advise I got from a nursing instructor was" stay in the field of nursing you love the most and continue to grow in it even within your future studies so you can become a expert in that field of Nursing.GB

Specializes in been a while in the ER as a student.

Hy, I'm 20 and I must say I feel same way as you do. I have been in the ER for a while as a volunteer and I loved it. I was feeling amazing, all my problems where left outside as I was walking inside. Also I made some great friends and I realized that they are a real team. I'm from Romania, but my dream is to be an RN in USA and work in the ER. I have seen how it is to work a 12 hours shift, once I stayed more, as I came earlier, before the night shift began and went home after it finished. :redpinkhe:redpinkhe I love everything about ER even the cases when you don't have time to breathe or realize you got a new serious case. I started the nursing school yesterday and I can't wait to go again to hospital. I did learn many things while going to ER so I guess they will help me a lot in future. Also I realized I'm doing it with passion and I truly hope I'll be a fantastic nurse. Also I'm looking if possible for a RN to talk to from time to time by Messenger or mails so please contact me :D in here. I really need details about what it means to be an RN in USA. Thanks and good luck Amanda, I wish you the best! See you

I just got a call from a hospital in SC wanting to interview me for patient care sitter. Anyone know what they do? I know they have to be a CNA, obviously because I am one. BUT I never heard of them!!!! Anyone know what the pay is? :twocents:

First off, congrats on the interview!! :yeah:Sitters I believe make anywhere between $8/hr to $15/hr. They primarily monitor the non medical needs of the patients. This helps ease the workload of RN's.

I hope you get the position.

Thanks! I really hope I get it too because I am in desperate need of a job. Right now I am a............telemarketer..............i sell organic grass seed.

I want to go back to the hospitals! I loveee hospitals!

the sitter is usually for a patient that will be in restraints or trying to pull out his NG Tube or IV or it could be a hospice Pt. Or a very High Fall Risk

Some hospitals have bed alarms built right into the bed some have the kind you put under the linen , A CNA course can be taken in a communituy Tech school also check with the red cross they may be able to help guide you to a state run program that is ost effective, I would look into something that less then $800

or the company is willing to reimburse you for your training

some nursing agency do reimburse you for your CNA program

Do not go to a Private profit making agency They will charge you to much

the going rate to get CNA or CNT is 300.00 to 800.00 for the course

I went though a RED Cross recommended program and the state actually funded it. It was 4 weeks long this was in 1976.LOL
