Obama's health plan

Hey everyone,

I haven't had a real answer to my question from any of the references that I've looked at. I'm wondering if Obama's plan for healthcare will cause a substantial cut in pay for RNs/healthcare workers do to universal healthcare? I'm graduating in December with my BSN, and I'm just curious about this issue. Thanks for the responses.

Its true... He wants to cut alot of RNS and basically having it running as like a nursing home would... He would save alot of money but again we would be without a job... It would run as it would in Canada and my dad ending up in a hospital in Canada and it was aweful!!! you had to wait a year for a general heart cath... it was crazy!

A Year? Really? I work and live in Canada, and have never seen anyone who really needs essential services have to wait. In Canada, our system is not so bad. Theres alot misunderstandings from Americans obviously from what I am reading about the Canadian system.

Of course, given our current economic situation, there are no guarantees that any expensive legislation will be passed through Congress early in his (or McCain's) administration. Also, even if the Democrats gain seats in both houses as well as the presidency, any new health care policy that emerges from Congress could still look drastically different from Obama's initial proposal - it's the nature of politics.

I myself have been following Obamas health care plan and like others have said, he is not trying to change our healthcare system into a universal healthcare system like Canadas. His plan will ensure that those persons who are uninsured can now get insured as well as stop insurance companies from refusing people based on previous conditions. As a nation, we pay the most for health care and spend the most on healthcare but have the most uninsured people. I think as nurses some of us forget what we got into this profession for, which is to ultimately tend to the sick. In doing that we of course want to financially take care of our families but nursing overall has it fair share of problems including pay. Lets try and fix one thing at a time and keep at the forefront of our minds that we are here to tend to and educate the sick. Nursing will always be a field that is hiring because people will always be sick, but you will never get rich (financially) from bedside nursing. Nothing with healthcare will change in the next four years. Whoever wins will be so busy with the economy mess that they will have to deal with government cuts becuase of money problems. Either that or we will pay more taxes so they can have more handouts. I'm no Obama supporter but his health plan isn't bad, I did read that it will cost around $90billion more than McCain's I also heard something similar on CNN. Neither of these guys will do any of the things they are promising in their campaigns. To much bagage coming in.

Uhhh, sorry to break it to you, but Canada has one of the best health care systems in the world (I'm not being bias). You can't generalize about the conditions of hospitals in Canada when you're basing it on only one experience from your dad.

We should model our system on the VA. Emphasis on primary care. Evidence based practice and low administrative costs.

Health care will be tackled. We can't afford double digit health care inflation year in/year out.

I personally don't think that either Obama or McCain can do anything to decrease nurses salary. This job is to D**N hard......who would do it. I know I wouldn't.

For those that are requesting a source to these facts, i can tell you it came straight from Triango's gut. And whether you like it or not, there is plenty of truthiness to what he/she has said.:)
