Obamacare and hospitals

ACA is a federal program administered through state marketplaces. Still a federal program with federal tax dollars footing the bill. I thought the concept of the marketplace was to give more options more choices. How does that work when the only choice in my state is Blue Cross?? I am def pro single payer universal health system. Its the only way to do it effectively do it. Europe figured that out years ago I guess we Americans are just slow!

And yes the can increase your premium and they can charge a co pay for office visits. I will post a copy of my blue cross plan so you can see it in black and white.

Allnurses won't let me upload the rest of the pics. I can PM you with them if you'd like. Basically it states that preventative care is covered at no cost WITHIN the network! As a travel nurse, I never know where I will be and may not have access to an in network provider. It also states that you can keep your same provider but only if you have seen them in the past for a specific condition: " in the case of an acute illness, a condition that is serious enough to require medical care or treatment to avoid a reasonable possibility of death or permanent harm, in the case of a chronic condition, a disease that is life threatening disabling or requires medical care over a long period of time, in the case of pregnancy the second or third trimester of pregnancy, in the case of a terminal illness."

That is the exact wording from my policy. So yea you can keep your doctor BUT.... There's always a BUT! Like I said read the fine print! Knowledge is power! Keep on Keeping on!

You have to keep in mind that this was written and passed by members of Congress. Most members of Congress are lawyers. It is full of lawyer speak and bs. READ THE FINE PRINT!

A Single Insurer Holds Obamacare Fate In Two States - Kaiser Health News

What happened in Iowa and South Dakota? The answer lies in commerce, not politics. The individual insurance market in both states is dominated by one insurer, Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield. The company chose not to sell on the ACA exchanges in the first year, locking its consumers out from buying subsidized plans from the company. And it is staying out of the Iowa and South Dakota exchanges for Year 2.
So it’s a tough choice for consumers. If they make under 400 percent of poverty, they can get federal subsidies for coverage, but only if they buy on the exchange.
Before last year’s enrollment, Wellmark had 87 percent of the individual market in Iowa and 73 percent of South Dakota’s market.
"It makes the exchange less attractive if a dominant insurer’s policies aren't available there," says Larry Levitt, a senior vice president of KFF.

Iowa’s Insurance Commissioner, Nick Gerhart says he and the governor of Iowa encouraged Wellmark to participate in the exchange, but Wellmark decided not to.
“We really don’t interfere with those types of decisions,” Gerhart says. “[Wellmark] made their decision and we have to respect that.”
The commissioner says his division hasn’t received consumer complaints about Wellmark’s market decisions, and lower income consumers had other plan options.
But Gold says Iowans may be paying more for health coverage in the current marketplace as a result – whether it be people in grandfathered plans who aren’t getting cheaper coverage through the exchange, or CoOportunity Health planholders who will pay a higher rate next year.

So you have hospitals using their freedom to refuse to accept the insurance, and you have doctors refusing to accept the insurance. Narrow networks, narrow access means that even if pre-existing conditions are covered, so what?

Obamacare kills jobs, hurts the economy as do almost any form of socialism; and it will be remembered Obamacare was 100% partisan (Democrat only) bill that was rammed through congress come November 4, 2014.

This particular CBO report has been a popular one to completely distort. What the CBO report actually said is not that demand for labor will decrease, but that workers demand for hours will decrease, which is actually a good thing. Previously there was a relatively large portion of the workforce that worked primarily "for the benefits", namely healthcare since working full time was the only way to access the level and quality of coverage found in employer group health plans. With the exchanges those workers can now access similar coverage regardless of the number of hours they work, making required income the only factor determining how much they need to work. This reduction in demand for hours then leaves those extra hours available for other works who actually need them for income, potentially reducing unemployment and under-employment.

As an example (this is actually an example given by Trader Joe's CEO), an employee who's spouse works independently and makes well over 6 figures where the employee isn't working for the money, but rather the ability to access a group plan. Now that this employee can get a group plan without having to get it through an employer the employee will likely stop working, leaving a job available for someone who actually needs the income.

Preferred provider networks, where you have to chose an in-network doctor or facility to get full coverage, have actually been around since long before Obamacare. Are you saying the government should prohibit insurers from seeking out the best deals with providers and facilities?

Under an Obamacare plan, the average family actually saves well over $2500.

Obamacare actually prohibits funds from those who oppose abortion going towards abortion.

It really sounds like you're arguing Obamacare isn't socialist enough, rather than it being too socialist.

Obamacare makes doctors compete on a larger scale, this competition helps offer cheaper insurance by reducing the cost of services through competition. The other option would be the more socialist option, to ensure insurance covers every provider and facility by regulating pricing and participation.

Health insurance of any type is wealth redistribution, that's the whole point of it. Health care costs are not evenly distributed, so unless you're arguing we should refuse healthcare to those whose costs exceed their ability to pay, "redistributing" those costs is the only option.

Obamacare actually does require a level of access to services and providers, although you're correct it doesn't require all providers and all facilities to accept any price an insurer offers, do you think the government should require all providers and all facilities to accept any price? In other words, it's not socialist enough for you?
