I also had a teen mom who named her child Margarita......(sad). I learned from many years working with new parents how to keep a straight face.

Two of my kids have a half brother named Jack Daniels "Brown". His mother drank Jack and coke daily but denies naming him for the beverage. Whatever.
Daughter's friend named her son "Talon". As in eagle claws??
Another dd friend's kid named "Rylan", pronounced Rye-lynn.
Son in law's brother named his first son Anakin. He is a big Star Wars freak, Anakin was Darth Vader's real first name before he turned to the Dark Side. WHY his wife agreed to this is beyond me.Last edit by KaroSnowQueen on Apr 30, '07 : Reason: spelling

She comes from a Catholic Cuban/Irish family. One her aunts reponded, "Oh, like the Gospel writer?" She drew a blank for a minutes and said something along the lines of, "Oh yeah! That too."
I am afraid they will have a girl next time and name her Leia. They are both nice, normal names but, uhm, not together!

May 2, '07Joined: May '07; Posts: 1My husband, while working his L&D rotation, assisted in the delivery of a baby girl that was named Labya (pronounced la-by-ah with the emphasis on by). The nurses questioned the mother as to the origins of the name and the reply was that it was a family name. I can only imagine the pronunciation blunders that occured when that child entered school.
I went to school with a brother and a sister whose last name was Butte (pronounced with a long "u" sound). The brother's name was Harold, but the kids at school shortened it to Harry and pronounced the last name as butt. His sister was equally unfortunate in the fact that as a small child she was chubby and her father called her Juicy and the name stuck.
I babysat a child named Walter Salter. I never understood what that couple had against that child...
My daughter has a child in her class named Chiquita Dole. The kids call her Tutti Frutti.
At a recent function with my husband a man walked up to our table and introduced himself as Major Beavers. We later found out his first name was Dixon but he went by Don. I can understand why. Major Beavers was bad enough but Dixon Beavers?! His parents either had a warped sense of humor, did drugs or were just to stupid to think about what they were doing.
