What's the weirdest baby name?

Specialties Ob/Gyn Nursing Q/A

Hi, I was wondering about some of those weird names that you've probably encountered in L&D and PP. I remember when I had my maternity rotation a couple of weeks ago, one of the nurses said she remembers a patient that named her child Placenta. I couldn't believe it that some child has to live his life named after disgusting afterbirth!

I have worked as a substitute teacher and sometimes I would come across names that were normal sounding but with some strange way of spelling it. Sorry can't think of any specific examples right now. Big question to the parents.....Why?

I ran across this one recently:

Janaphar (pronounced like Jennifer). I didn't ask her about it, I figured she heard it several times a day. (She's a cashier in a store).

Also recently: Peechiss (seen in a newspaper).

I used to go to church with a couple who had 3 kids - Liberty, Justice, and America. All girls. Not sure what they were thinking.

I had one teen mom who, when asked about the name on the birth certificate, presented us with a drawing of a sun face followed by a y followed by a star. You know, imagine a happy face with flames drawn around it like a kid would, y, and a 5 point start. His name was supposed to be Sunny Starr (first, last). She however did not want him to be in "the system" so she wanted to give him a name that could never be entered in by computer or typing. She also refused the social security application that was the law at the time. Grandpa to the baby (her dad) had hair down to his waist (at about 45 years old) and a beard down to his belt buckle and handed out joints to everyone who attended the birth - she invited about 10 strange people to be in the room until the OB director politely invited them out and confiscated the joints. Yes, they were MJ not tobacco. She and the birth certificate queen butted heads until we finally called the social worker who explained that the baby would not be able to leave the hospital until the official birth certificate had been filed with a legally typed name in the appropriate blank. And offered to call in the lawyer to explain it to her. I can't help but be concerned about the pathway that family walked.
