Oakland University ABSN

Published

Hi there, anyone getting ready to interview in the next couple months for the Oakland University Accelerated nursing program? Thought this would be a good place in share experiences! Good luck!

Also, does anybody in the program already have any advice for the next couple agonizing months? Thanks in advance!

The information is posted under the school of nursing/important forms/health requirement forms

Under the health requirement forms there are several links that tell what is needed for vaccinations, background check, etc. and who to send the results to. There is also a link there with CPR course locations for 2010-2011

Found it....thank you SASlong

I am still in the process of taking my prerequisites so that I can apply to the ABSN, but I LOVE reading these posts because it makes so excited to be where you guys are today!

Anyway, after reading some of the recent posts on here, I think there may be some confusion on where Riverview Institute is located. Riverview Institute is not in the city of Riverview or downriver. It's actually in Detroit, not far from downtown Detroit. I used to work in downtown Detroit and the drive is really not that bad...I live in Troy.

There is a map located on OU's nursing website. Congrats everyone for getting into the program!

Hi Steph, Good luck on your prerequisites!! I think many of us use Riverview(not the city) as a shorthand name and we realize it's in downtown Detroit - thanks for clarifying though for some who may not know and again best of luck as you get ready to apply to nursing schools.

I know that most of you here have already been accepted or whatnot, but I am surprised that there aren't any posts regarding the interviews that are going on right now. Is there anyone out there that has already interviewed last week or this week? I have an interview next week and I am nervous.

Hi Steph - Thanks for the note about the location of Riverview. If you were referring to my post, I didn't mean to insinuate that Riverview was downriver, just that I would be driving through Detroit on my way downriver. But I can see how my post could be confusing to anyone that didn't know...

Hey evansmom,

This website is usually found by students accidentally, looking for information on programs and the such....it isn't publicized at OU or it could be that many of the final prereq. classes are online so less students actually talk to each other and spread the word. Its a shame cuz this site is very helpful for those who know about it. Looking back at past posts, you will notice that there are only 15 or so of us who used this site for info during the last round of interviews, etc. Hopefully more students interviewing with you will find it and begin using it to share their good news of acceptance into the program, info on classes, carpooling, etc. Good luck to you!

....just my :twocents:

Hi evansmom,

The best way is to start a thread yourself. Others will find it trust me. In my interview session, I was lucky to be in contact with about 10-15 people. It did help as the wait can be a pain. Many people know about this site but not all use it. For me, it was nice to talk with other people in the same boat. Regarding the interview, don't be nervous. You will do well. Just believe in yourself, understand why you want to be a nurse and most importantly be confident(not too much though ;). I truly believe the interview can make or break an application but you are in control and as long as you show your commitment, you will be fine. Good luck.

I'm interviewing next week too!

So, has anyone heard from OU for Summer 2011? I haven't yet. My interview was more than a week ago, so I am nervous.

Hey evansmom,

For the last group, we all interviewed during the first 2 weeks of march and didn't start getting letters until the beginning of April. So it was about a month before we heard anything. Good luck! I know waiting is agony.

I agree with SA. I had one of the first interviews but didn't get a letter till almost a month later. They pretty much send out all decisions at the same time regardless if you were first to interview or last. If you felt good about your interview, you have a great chance. I have heard those who did not come away feeling good, generally did not get in. Thus, the interview seems to be a make or break thing for some. Good luck to all of you waiting. I know how you feel - it seems like the waiting never ends.
