Oakland University ABSN

Hi there, anyone getting ready to interview in the next couple months for the Oakland University Accelerated nursing program? Thought this would be a good place in share experiences! Good luck!

Also, does anybody in the program already have any advice for the next couple agonizing months? Thanks in advance!

Hi WJ, I'm not sure about the Itouch. I met someone who is in the May class from my Patho class but I don't talk to her much. But I do know someone who attends MSU's school of nursing. He has the nursing applications and likes it. But from what I hear, it's expensive to have those applications (additional $50 per month I think??). But I'm sure it will help. I guess we can ask at orientation. I'm debating on whether to get an Itouch but I'm up for a new phone. It's only 11 months so it may be worth paying extra to have key info at your finger tips. It's easier than lugging around a laptop in clinicals.

Hi Melbell, I think most of the people who are active on this forum have been accepted to the program. I would suggest you start a new thread. But honestly, if I were you, I would go to another information session. Also, why not just email advising?? You have nothing to lose by asking. I would also try to find out what you can do to improve your chances. I know it's frustrating but you can do it. Don't give up. I wish you all the best.

MelBell - I know someone who didn't get in to our cohort. She actually set up an appt with the Dean to find out why and then had to start the entire process over again. They won't contact you and the meeting with the Dean was a waste of her time. She applied again and was interviewed in the last round, but unfortunately didn't get accepted again. I heard the last interview round was very large. Good Luck!

Thank ejcl - I am sure they will let us know at orientation, I am just getting anxious and want to get things ready. I was also debating about an iPad for the lectures to download the books onto instead of lugging them around. But that is a lot of money to pay... See you at orientation.

Hi wj2010,

Thanks for the information! I just received an e-mail to set up another interview, however, I don't think I will try it again. I think this time there are like 180 interviews and they are only 15 minutes long compared to the 30 minute interviews they did last time. I tried a few other universities as well and got on waitlist, but just didn't get off it, so I may try a community college. I work as a nurse's aid and I like it, so hopefully some day I will get into a nursing program. I know I could improve a little on my GPA which is good already, but its not a 4.0, so maybe I will look into that at some point. Well good luck in nursing school!

Wow! That is a lot of candidates! Do you know how many they will actually take per cohort... and will they accept people for multiple cohorts from that number? I am not eligible to interview until the spring (have to finish organic chem first)... but OU is my first choice, and I have been following thread discussions on the school for several months, trying to gleen as much info as possible :).

Hi! I e-mailed the person who sets up the interviews to ask if it is still 50 per cohort and what cohorts they are interviewing for. I will let you know when she e-mails me back.

I called the admissions advisor and it is only 50 spots per chort. I am able to set up an interview for fall 2011, but there are a lot of people interviewing, so it will be hard to set high expectations of getting in, but we will see how it goes!

Hi everyone!!! After much searching I've finally found this thread :) Anyway, I'm accepted into the January 2011 cohort too and I waned to meet you all before Wednesday. I thought for orientation I would bring an excel sheet and have everyone write down their names, phone numbers, and e-mails. Then I would send out a fan e-mail and make a facebook group. What do you all think? Let me know!

Do you guys know whether OU looks at Undergraduate GPAs as a factor for acceptance into the 2nd Degree program... in other words is there a required or preferred minimum GPA from your first Bachelors degree?

Just wondering if anyone here interviewed this month for the January 2012 ABSN program at OU? If so, how did you do?!?
