Oakland University ABSN

Hi there, anyone getting ready to interview in the next couple months for the Oakland University Accelerated nursing program? Thought this would be a good place in share experiences! Good luck!

Also, does anybody in the program already have any advice for the next couple agonizing months? Thanks in advance!

ejcl68,

thanks for that information. can you tell me if your received an email as well or did you only receive a letter int he mail? that way, i will stop checking my email every hour on the hour! :) - so much in life requires waiting - it's the hardest part!

Our cohort only received letters. Previous cohorts did receive emails, though. If you're like me, you'll drive yourself crazy waiting! Good luck to you!

Hi Dandy,

Like nursejms said, expect a letter. I have heard in the past they did send out emails and I know someone who found out a week after they interviewed via email. My feeling is they may have gotten a bunch of calls or something and decided to do everything via mail. I would pretty much say it will be 2-4 weeks after you interview depending on if you were first or toward the end of the interview process. For our class, we had two weeks of interviews. Just keep checking your mail. It feels like forever so I know how you feel. But there's nothing better than opening the letter and the fist thing you see is 'congratulations...' Best wishes to all who are waiting.

Hi all, just finished up pharm and remembered I hadn't checked this in a while. I think the other thing we can get done now is the health assessment because it has to be within 4 months of starting the program. (Yay only 4 months to go!) Hopefully we hear something soon about our orientation.

Hi, I am taking Pharm and nutrition in the fall. I have BLS this week and already had my physical. I also got my Hept. B vaccination(first two) so I am getting there with all of this stuff. I can't wait to start. It probably going to fly by. Anyone interested in organizing an event to meet up before orientation? It would be cool to meet some of you before we start. I guess I can organize something or a few of us can. Let me know. Regardless, I'm looking forward to meeting all of you soon.

Hey ej,

Did you go to your personal doc for the Hep B vaccinations? If not, can you post the prices you have gotten for vaccinations? I have started checking around and so far this is what I gathered:

Concentra:

$97.50 MMR

$76.50 Varicella

$55.50 10 Panel Drug Screen

$37.00 Physical

Oakland County Health Department:

Hep B-3 shots $75

MMR- $46

Tet and DP - $20

Yes, I went through my primary care physician and so far most has been paid for by insurance- outside my $30 office co-pay. I still need one more hept. B which will be done 5 months from my second vaccination. I also plan on getting my PTD and drug screen at my doctor's office so all the records will be in one place.

Just checking in to see how everyone is doing. I'm looking forward to orientation next month - I've got so many questions! Has anyone done the CPR certification yet? Where? I'm trying to get signed up now. I feel very nervous now that we are so close. There are so many loose ends to tie up and so little time.... Can't wait to meet you all!

I'm excited and a little nervous as well. It looks like it's going to be a very busy 2011 for all of us. I noticed they switched one class to on campus instead of online. Does anyone know if we get a day off during the week or is it likely that we'll be on campus 5 days?? It looks like two days will be especially long(M, F). My friend who is in the May 2010 class said they got one week off in June. I hope we get a break somewhere.

Regarding CPR, I would highly recommend CPR plus in Clawson. I took their BLS class a in September and really liked it. Unlike a CPR course I took years ago, it is all hands on training. You come out of class actually feeling very confident in your ability to save someones life!!!

I'm also interested in possibly car pooling so drop me a PM if you live in the Troy area.

Also I had my physical a few weeks back but I noticed they said not to do anything until after orientation. But I read that the physical could be done anytime a year(I believe) before the program so I hope I am good. I have also had two Hept. B vaccinations which I highly recommend to everyone. My PCP also highly encouraged me to get the flu-swine vaccine which is one shot instead of two. I have mixed feeling about that one since I have read some things which opened up my eyes. He said that almost all health care workers are getting them to protect patients, etc.

I am so excited for orientation also. My BLS class is this Friday in Clawson - it will be nice to get that done. I have rescheduled my physical twice already and then read the orientation letter and have to do it again. I definitely don't want to have to re-do anything.

Ejcl - I was thinking about getting an iPod Touch with nursing apps but was wondering if you know (from your friends in the May class) if they recommend anything or if they are even allowed to use them?

Hi Everyone,

I was curious if anyone who didn't get accepted to OU's Accelerated BSN program ever get a letter and/or email to set up another interview like we had to last March for another cohort? I am not quite sure what semester they are interviewing for at the end of oct and beginning of nov.
