Hi there, anyone getting ready to interview in the next couple months for the Oakland University Accelerated nursing program? Thought this would be a good place in share experiences! Good luck!
Also, does anybody in the program already have any advice for the next couple agonizing months? Thanks in advance!
If anyone is interested in car pooling, I might be interested. I live near 16 mile(Big Beaver) and Adams. I have a 4 x 4 Explorer which guzzles gas but its good in the snow. I know it's early but just thinking ahead. Even if its just a few days a week, it might be worth it.
Also, anyone needing a BCLS class, I know of a very good in Clawson. I haven't taken it yet but my friend did who is going to be a PA.
Hey ejcl68 and wj2010,
Can you post the info on this site for the bcls class because I think I do not have enough posts to get pms. There is another class held in Troy a couple of times a month for $75 ... the website is enjoycpr.com .... is this class similar to the one you guys are looking at? .... would this meet the requirements for OU (I am not sure what OU wants, only know that we need a certified cpr course of some kind) ....thanks for any info you can provide ....carpooling for you two should work cuz you two are close to each other, I live up near Crittenton hosp., but maybe something can be worked out ... thanks again
mjsrt - I also live near Crittenton. I would love to work out some carpooling once we get started! When I first started working on my pre-reqs for this program I was thinking how convenient it was to live near OU. I knew the clinicals could be anywhere, but I was thinking at least the coursework was close. Obviously, it doesn't change anything except the miles on my car and the gas cost!
I'd also love some info about the CPR classes available!
Thanks so much.
Hi nursejms2011,
I thought the same thing..... living close to OU, Crittenton, and Beaumont would make it easier....NOT! Definitely interested in carpooling since I have a gas guzzler ... may look into getting a used small car just for next year to cut down on the gas expense. Hope to hear something from ej and wj soon ..... keep in touch, thanks
Hi, I think we should all check with Oakland Nursing before taking any CPR classes. I think they have a guideline on when they want the class taken(within a certain period of time of starting the main program). I thought I heard this but correct me if I am wrong. There are also vaccinations, etc. which are needed and again, they will tell us when to get them. I will look up the info on the class my friend took and send it to whoever is interested. My sister recommended me to take it now even if I need to take it again - she is a CRNA and said it's good experience. But I don't want to spend money twice.
How is everyone spending the summer?? I feel like I'm forgetting a lot of my patho, etc. but I am sure it will come back to me. How does one keep sharp on this material. It's still 5 months away.
Has anyone driven down to Riverview yet?? I have a friend who is in the program now and she said it's really nice. I was thinking I will drive down just to get comfortable with the location and to see how long of a drive it is. I think it's around 26 miles from my house but not 100 % sure. It sounds like we will be down there for all of our courses which to me is good. But I would love it if they had it at the main campus which is a nice short drive. Not to be. Let's just hope this winter is a mild one.
I agree about waiting to take the CPR class until I hear exactly what they want, but I do want to start looking around for locations and prices. And yes, there are health requirements and a drug test and a background check that we have to finish too. I just wish I could start getting some of this done. I feel like we are sitting around doing nothing and then we'll have just a few weeks to get through everything else (and I have to schedule a physical with my doctor months in advance!). I really just want to get something accomplished during our down time...
mjsrt - I also drive a gas guzzler. The good news is the 4 wheel drive will help get through the winter! Let's just hope we get assigned some clinicals at Beaumont or Crittenton so that our location will come in handy for something....
ej - my parents live downriver, so next time I go to visit I plan on driving to Riverview first to get feel for where we're going. I've heard that the facilities are wonderful, so at least it's worth the drive.
I remember reading in the OU nursing handbook, the vaccinations required, the criminal check, and even a listing of recommended places to take the CPR class. The CPR class must be the one for health professionals and depending upon where you take it the certification is good for 2 years. OU even lists the prices of those classes(not sure how often they update that info), but at least it's something to start with. So we all can keep ourselves busy this summer by at least getting the CPR class out of the way while we wait for the real fun to begin.
hey SASlong,
I searched all over the OU website looking for that nursing info. but could not find it anywhere. I was not given any of that info from ---- neither. I would sure like to find out so that I may get a few of those things done in the next month cuz I have 2 fall classes and hate to be doing those and all this other stuff at the same time. It would be nice to know somethings in advance so that we can chip away at them when we can.

Texas and California are the two I've heard most often, but I know I've heard of others along the way, too.
