Hi,

I think everybody who's posted on this thread is going to US.

How easy is it to emigrate to Australia? What processes do you have to go through?

Hi Kay

the process varies from what I have read on another website. Visa type depends on age and other things and process does vary but if you want to have a look at some time lines would suggest a look on http://www.britishexpats.com in the nursing section there is a lot on there going to Australia

hi, I am with OGP, and am two thirds of the way through my contract with them, the main problems I had with immigration was vermont returning my transcripts 3 times before being given the go ahead, so that wasnt OGP, but between the scool of nursing that filled the transcripts in incorrectly and vermont. we didnt choose where we came but had a choice before we came of arizona or here. we chose here, as we can always go to arizona at a later date if we wish. it all depends where OGP has vacancies at the time of your embassy interview, as you have to be employed and take the letter of employment with you to the embassy interview. our nearest contact with OGP is in florida, but they are always helpful if anyone needs them. the process to get here seemed endless as it is to everybody, but I could get on with my life back home and not worry about it as OGP took care of everything. I am now living in a wondeful place that other people pay a fortune to come to, with a sunny climate. it was worth all the waiting before we came, even if we like everybody else didnt know what was happening while we were waiting for all the different stages of the immigration process. its the same for all nurses regardless of where they come from. some of the OGP nurse have finished their contracts here and gone stateside, and have stayed with OGP, some to california, new york, arkansaw and south carolina. once the contract is finished you can go anywhere you want and with any agency that you want.

Hi Cariad :)

Does anybody ever stay in the Virgin Islands when their contract is up with OGP?

Vermont can be used only based on where the office is for the agency that is sponsoring you. You do not have a choice in centers................ :)

Quite correct (as always!) Interstaff Inc are based in Texas and use Vermont. We (my wife, who I'm not speaking to as she's used my log on to post recently :p and I) are quite fortunate in using a recruitment company in this respect(but perhaps not in others), as had we gone solely with Banner Health in AZ, they use California which appears to be a lot slower in processing (recently and currently at least).

It still takes what feels like a lifetime though! Weather is awful here in Wales for June (not unlike any other time of the year) - bring on the triple digit temps (and the air con)!!

hi, kay and everybody else

on the whole the nurses dont stay in the virgin islands, OGP brought a number of nurses from the other carribean islands to here...jamaica, antigua, barbados etc. and they just see it as coming from one island to another. some do stay and sign on with the hospital, but not many as the hospital is government owned and run, and the government for these islands is not very well run, and not very good at paying it's bills. the hospital has got no money as they treat everybody who comes in through the doors but then not everybody can pay the bill, and there is a cap on what the hospital can reclaim from the government for medicaid, practices are behind the times here compared to the UK, and nurses are not very autonomous, only allowed to do what the doctor orders, the nurses here cant make nursing decisions for the patients like they can back home. although this is a unted states terrirory of the states , america is not very good at recognising us as part of them. even on this site for locations, theres all of the states of america but no mention of the territorys. and thats the same for most internet sites. the drop down box for where you are doesnt recognise here and if we want to buy online then the shipping is either astronomical or they dont ship here.

the island lifestyle makes up for the shortcomings in the hospital and I would definitely come back for a 13 week contract as a traveller, my day off and we are just going to the beach with some diving friends to do some snorkelling in the continual 90 degree sunshine. then for dinner at a beach bar and to watch the wonderful sunset. this has been like an 18 month holiday with work in between, and we will be ready for stateside in january, no kids with us so we can go wherever we want for 13 week contracts and experience other places and other hospitals. christine......from wales to scotland to usvi.

Your agency must have other offices elsewhere or they would not be able to use Vermont. Texas actually has a center. Right now, because of the retrogression essentially still in place, California is quite fast. I think that they are on April right now or close to it, and for 2005. :)

Thanks for the reply :) I guess life is not all good even in paradise - dam shame - but the lifestyle sounds great.
