Hi everyone! I'm applying for the NYU Spring 2015 ABSN program and haven't been able to find any threads about the program yet. Feel free to post questions you have or to share information about the program, your personal stats, advice for writing the personal statement or just to say hi. Here's to speedy acceptances and a fun future in nursing! :)
My Stats:
Just graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.S. in Psychology and an overall GPA of 3.38
Got an A in almost all the pre-reqs, don't know the pre-req GPA
Volunteered as an EMT for 4 years and worked for 2 years
Worked as a Direct Care Worker for 1 year
Volunteer in Methodist Hospital in the Stepdown Unit
Danrutgers, you have excellent stats!! I wish I had that experience (I want to get into mental health nursing - I have worked with children with behavioral issues.) I'm sure you'll get in!! I just got my NetID today...going to be checking like a madwoman to make sure all my transcripts sent. My letter of recommendation is coming from an old supervisor who is now working in the mental health field and is in school for social work. Plus she is a writer, so I know her letter will be outstanding lol. I just hope everything else is as good. Good luck!
I got my NetID about three weeks ago and I check constantly! This waiting is killing me.... I shot out an email to someone in admissions and they said they should be releasing decisions the first week of November all the way till about December 15th. Yikes. I'm not sure if I can hold off till then.
I just spoke with admissions and they told me that they will be sending out decisions 6-7 weeks after you submitted it if you were able to meet the priority deadline of October 1. They also reminded me about submitting the CSS profile if I wanted to be considered for financial aid. So I'm in the process of doing that now.
By my calculations tuition will be over $80,000 for the entire program plus living expenses. What are your guys' options for meeting tuition? Will you be taking loans or do you guys have savings or other sources of funding?
I believe I had my application completed 8/7. I sent it in that day and all of my transcripts were sent out the last week of July ( I was ready to 1. Get it done and 2. Hopefully hear back ASAP). 80k plus living is a hefty bill, but I'm willing to pay to go to nyu. I have a college fund saved from my first degree which I didn't use because I got an athletic scholarship.... But I'll probably take out a small loan for living.... Whether it's in NYC or hoboken.
I still have some wiggle room with federal loan options because I didn't use any for my undergrad. But I'll also be hoping to access private loans.
Where will you be commuting from? I'm considering what my living options are. I'll be moving from the west coast. NYC apartment prices are cray cray though.

Hey guys I'm super nervous about finding out if I got into NYU. My stats are as follows: I am a graduate from Rutgers University (New Brunswick Campus) with a 3.6 cumulative gpa. For my pre-reqs so far I have a 4.0 gpa. I currently work at an inpatient psychiatric hospital as a mental health technician providing direct care to patients suffering from: bipolar, schizophrenia, major depression, etc. I've been doing this for almost a year and a half. Before this I worked with children that have autism at a school based on the Rutgers Campus. My LOR is from one of the Nurse Practitioners I work with. I really hope I get in!! Best of luck to everyone!
