NYU Spring 2015 ABSN

Published

Hi everyone! I'm applying for the NYU Spring 2015 ABSN program and haven't been able to find any threads about the program yet. Feel free to post questions you have or to share information about the program, your personal stats, advice for writing the personal statement or just to say hi. Here's to speedy acceptances and a fun future in nursing! :)

My Stats:

Just graduated from Brooklyn College with a B.S. in Psychology and an overall GPA of 3.38

Got an A in almost all the pre-reqs, don't know the pre-req GPA

Volunteered as an EMT for 4 years and worked for 2 years

Worked as a Direct Care Worker for 1 year

Volunteer in Methodist Hospital in the Stepdown Unit

My checklist does not have the item recommendation letters. But I do know that they received them because they have checked receiving the transcript from my prereqs which was sent in the same package as the recommendation letters.

I do feel New York City is one of those rare global cities that we would be lucky to have an opportunity to work in. But I don't want to be that graduate who leaves with an immense amount of debt from my nursing degree and be stuck in crappy hospital and wishing that I went to a cheaper school. I'm going to weigh my options as soon as I hear more from NYU and what scholarship or financial aid offerings they'll be giving me.

Hey Mordy, letters are not posted to Albert.

I received by NYU net ID info this morning! So exciting. My transcripts are not checked off as well, which I sent in over 3 weeks ago. I am going to give them a call today that they received them and to make sure I am still being considered for early decision. In the email I received they mentioned that it takes sometime pairing documents they received with applicants so I hope that is why they are not checked. It's weird that they don't show whether they received you letters of recommendation.

I used to live in the city and moved last year to get a little break while I go back to school and save some money. My friend just became a nurse practitioner (degree at NYU) and he had a tough time getting a job when he came here as a RN. This was in 2009. He slept on my couch for 3 weeks before finding a part time job as a psych nurse at Roosevelt. He eventually worked up to full-time but had to get a a side job to make rent. It is definitely competitive but possible! I also attended a panel held at NYU a year ago for Pediatric Nursing and there was a women who took a full year to find a Peds job. But Peds is super competitive. Not sure what the job market is like today but I hope the info helps!

UPDATE: For anyone in a similar situation who is wondering if their transcripts have been received, you can all Undergraduate Admissions and someone can check to see if they were received. I sent in transcripts from 3 universities and they have only input 2 into the system. She said they are just starting the process and that they still have a lot more information to input and they probably just haven't gotten to the third set yet. I am also still eligible for early decision, what a relief! Hope this helps some of you!

Hi everyone! I'm from NJ and applying for the second degree nursing program at nyu. I don't exactly have that stellar gpa (3.1) but I'm hoping at my LORs, resume, 10 years worth of volunteer work in nursing homes and hospitals, and statement help me get into this program. I actually ended up dropping off my last LOR today and a very nice person in the admissions office verified that my application is all set now. Keeping my fingers crossed, it's going to be a long 1-2 months! Good luck to everyone!!

Hey, I'm from California and applied to the NYU ABSN program for Jan 2015.

I have a subpar 3.0gpa pre-req nursing GPA. I graduated from UC Santa Barbara

Experience: UCSB public health internship, 300 hours as an intern from Med-Surg, ICU, ER, OR, and Labor & Delivery, teacher's assistant for human anatomy lab, gross-dissection cadaver internship, private science tutor

-Peta Theta Kappy International Honor Society

-Solid Letter of Recs

I am really worried bc my GPA is below average of the admitted applicants. My low grades were due to significant personal challenges during undergrad and I hope they believe in second chances. I hope they really look at the whole applicant.

QUESTIONS:

Does anyone know when will be receiving our notification letters?

How much is total tuition for the ABSN program?

What are good neighborhoods for housing options?

Based on threads from past sessions of the program it seems we can find out anytime after the deadline to apply so hopefully we can start hearing in the beginning of November.

Is a recommendation letter required to be considered for the program? I called to see if my transcript was in and they told me that they had received my transcript from Brooklyn College but had not yet received the recommendation letter. I'm going to assume it got lost in the mail and will get a new copy hand them directly but I was just wondering if we actually NEED one.

Hey everyone! I just applied this morning for spring 2015 ABSN. I'm in another BSN program on Long Island, but the school seems to not know which way is up and it's really making me doubt the program. So I figured I'd try for NYU.

GPA is 3.4

Prereq GPA is 3.6

No experience in hospitals, but I've worked with children with mental health issues for years *I want to go into mental health*

Just waiting on transcripts to be sent and my letter.

Good luck everyone!

Hey guys! I applied for spring term too and just and anxious and excited as the rest of you. I was reading on the website that decisions would be made no later than 12/15. I Cannot wait that long! Fingers crossed for sooner rather than later

I currently work as an exercise physiologist in Cardiac rehab and I'm looking to make a career change to be more hands on! Graduated from Temple 3.5 GPA exercise science major, bio minor.

Good luck to all of you other applicants!

Hi! I was just wondering what BSN program you're currently in in Long Island? Thank you, and best of luck!!

Adelphi. There was a big miscommunication and I'm told 2 different things which could potentially set me back an entire year.
